Hi to all.
I read a few posts when the Nokia 6120 came out that said they were not so great. But most i talk to with a Nokia 6120 are happy, not so with Samsung + others. I like nokia because of ease of use and need a standard type phone so can keep in a pouch for protection at work (hard with any flip or slide) Also need coverage for outer limits of coverage areas (some say a Nokia car kit / external arial is available but then also been told only after market brand and its poor quality) Plus would love to be able to connect to lap top with reasonable speed (not sure what a good down load speed is? any sugestions?) so can check a few things while away and stay longer.
Sorry got a bit long winded but i would realy appreciate any help / sugestions from those who are more up with this area and have had experience with the 6120.
Thanks
GN

G N.

Have 6120, after market car kit, external aerial and USB to laptop or blue tooth.

All good. Very happy now.

After market kit is good.
Has connect for power from cig plug, USB connect in base of cradle and connection in cradle for external antenna.
Echo problem was Nokia issue. Fixed now with latest update.
Speed difference, not sure.
Antenna is old CDMA not sure about "true direction connection".

Your right its Friday and its been a long week.

The phone was first install with the nokia hardwired hands free car kit. Blue tooth connection to the phone.

Then I added the after market cradle. Still blue tooth to the nokia kit.

Hope this is clear.

Giday GN,

Paniced into getting one late last month. Just told telstra I wanted a no fuss phone with no accessories. They sent me the 6120. Seems to work ok, no better or worse than my old one.

Just a quick note: if you have big clumsy fingers [ like me ] the small buttons can be a bit annoying.

Cheers...Lionel.

Hi GN

Got one for a kid a couple of months ago ($298 off ebay) and it works very well, is more sensitive than an LG we tested side by side in the bush and is generally a good item with lots of tricks.

I don't think I will get one though because the small size of the keys makes it hard to use and the external aerial is not a true direct connection type.

I held onto my Kyocera , and if I had to jump today I would buy the Samsung.

Hi GN,

I am very happy with my 6120, it has more features than I will every use and its range is great. Being able to get emails and even high speed internet directly on the phone out in the bush is awesome - and it can be used as a modem for the laptop (just watch the data charges or get a data plan).

I have compared it side by side with LG's and other phones and I was able to make calls where no others could. Also, at some stages I was getitng reception on nextG whereas even the remaining CDMA users in our 4WD club were out of range.

While it doesn't have a direct external antennae connection, the proximity connection works really well and the end result is a better range than those with directly connected antenas.

I think this has more to do with the better sensitivity of the Nokia internal antenae and who knows how great the range could have been if it had a direct connection.

About the only drawback is the small buttons, but then it would have to be bigger (or smaller screen) and I prefer the fact I can easily slip it in my pocket.

IMHO, I would reccomend this phone over any other NextG ones on the market at the moment.

Cheers

Captain

Another vote for the 6120.

Works well as a modem for the notebook, can also receive e-mail directly. The camera is good, if I ever use it :) Calender, alarms, voice reading of SMS' (but it can't pronounce "gnu" :) etc.

Read the instruction book - the phone has a few tricks you won't otherwise discover.

Cons:
too small but I've learned to live with it
I doubt it will bounce as well as my Nokia 3130 did.

It's not compulsory to gibbon impersonations but, personally, I think it makes the phone a little more sensitive and it brightens the day up.

The 6120's are a good phone, we got a heap for our employees.

One had been replaced about 3 weeks from getting them and another plays up now and again....they are alot more reliable then the other brands.

We also have the Nokia E51's and they are alot better phone then the 6120.

We have car kits for all of them with external Laser brand antennas, with antennas don't use the on glass type for the car kits.

Spend the extra a get the Nokia E51.

Thanks for info Richard
Why are the E51's better? I didnt think you could get a car kit for an E51 iether?
So are the antennas hard wired? What is wrong with the glass type?

Another vote, works well, there is something sick about having internet access when camping ;-))
I've got the force cradle and external antenna which works well, just the phone alone has often surprised me with coverage where the CDMA with full car kit never worked.

I am all htumbs and I rarely have trouble with da buttons on my 6120. The camera is good quality, it takes good video and it takes goood panoramic photo's.

Saturday night 2 weeks ago when the Patrol went on strike I used it to look to look up yellowpages.com and called a tilt tray no wuckers.

I can use speaker phone while driving if someone calls me. It's all good.
