Hi I just brought a 2003 17ft Coromal seka 535 pioneer xc off road pop top (Tandem axle)it has everything that we required double bed plus bunks a/c it is like new, I tow it with my 2003 GU 3lt patrol auto which fuel consumption has decreased by about 2km per lt small sacrifice I guess, I had searched for ages to try and find a van like this now I have it.
Although I did research on the Coromal ,Jayco Windsor and others and found the good and the bad, Is their anyone who has this particular model who can tell me what I should be aware of the good and the bad as we are going to do a few short trips to start with we have done plenty of camping over the past 20 yrs with a tent before we upgraded to a off road camper trailer and now we are going to try caravanning as this is all new to us and hints tips would be great
Cheers Lyle

Hi there Lyle,
We have a 17ft Jayco starcraft pop top, which we just love, one of the best things my husband did for me was put a 12vlt pump in so that all I had to do was push a button and water came up without having to use the jolly
hand pump, and it has been terrific. Another really important tip is to make sure that your van is very level otherwise the fridge does not work effectivly I think from memory any more than 3 degs off level is when it starts to happen......So enjoy caravanning we do.

G'day Hunter40
Our previous van was the same as yours except it was model 520 ( a little shorter) fantastic van, had it for several years and no problems what so ever. Only sold it because we are now a little older and it didn't have internal shower/loo.
As stated only problem was fridge if not level.
Enjoy.
Cheers

G'Day Lyle,
Ours is the older 505 so you can compare what an 8 year old van is like.
1/ Roof bows and collects water in the centre. It has aobut 10 tubes of silicon on the roof to keep the water out
2/ The struts on the left hand side have weakened due to pressure from the awning.
3/ The rear wheel carrier had a crack in it, luckily noticed and repaired in time
4/ The two front FRP flaps have cracks in every corner - compared this to brand new ones at the caravan show last year, same cracks
5/ Problem with Dometic fridge, no good when temps get to 35C, this is not a van but a 3-way fridge problem
6/ Would not purchase another Coromal
Regards
Rolande

Forgot,
Don't believe the weights on the compliance plate. Our van is 250kg heavier than compliance

Thanks guys the fridge is a 90lt Engel and they (sales) told me that levelling the van was good practise but not crucial for this model fridge (12v/240 compressor). Also has anyone changed their tyre size on their tow vehicle as
mine are the factory 265/70 16 would it improve fuel ecom if I was to change to 265/75 16 ? I am also going to put air bags in the rear already have a 2" tough dog lift with adjustable shockies.
Cheers Lyle

Look for movement around the rivits on the inside. It's a good way to know if the van has seen a lot of rough road action. The chassis flex's and the interior moves relative to the ali frame (just 0.5 to 1mm or so). You can spot it by the dark rings around the rivits. Once it's started, it generally get worse.
