Am I missing something? A bloke on ebay is trying to sell a bullbar for what he states is a 1988 GQ Patrol ute. I own a GQ and know what they look like, this is a MQ. The bullbar won't fit a GQ as the chassis rails are a different width.
Is this another case of a car manufacturer making model naming as difficult as possible or is this bloke making a mistake?
I'm trying to insert picture with my question but am unable to.
Cheers

Barnesy,
From what I can remember about the Patrols is that even though the ute was made in 1988 and the GQ was on the market, Nissan kept the MQ body shape for the ute only.
If they called it a GQ ute I am not sure but it had a MQ body on a 1988 Patrol ute.

Hard to tell from that
pic but it does look more like the grill from an MQ.

That's the one. That's definitely a MQ but apparently the compliance plate states GQ.

Mate of
mine has got one of these things. The outside panels are MQ, the interior is GQ it runs a hybrid chassis that resembles a GQ but has leaf springs all-round. The diffs are GQ but runs the extra heavy duty rear diff similiar to the leaf spring GU ute. (same as the now defunct Caball). His is natural 4.2 diesel and it was a model stop gap before they changed the body shape to GQ for the utes and cab chassis. I think it only ran for 1988 and perhaps early 1989. Inside it looks like a GQ, dash seats, console etc, but obviously has the MQ wings and a modernised grill. Indicator lamps from the MQ, under the headlights.

Desert's response is spot on, also keep in mind that a bullbar from an MQ or a GQ ute with leaf spring front will not fit a GQ wagon with coil spring front as the chassis rails on the leaf spring are narrower.
