Howdy,
A mate of
mine is after an old military style tent, you know the ones with a centre pole, one on each of the four corners and sides that can roll up.
He is looking at going retro when camping up the river and reckons it would be great for him and his buddies that go up there to "catch fish".
Does anyone know if they are still made or where he might be able to get one?
Thanks,
Steve

Try a tentmaker like
Southern Cross Canvas. Probably cost a fortune to get made though with the cost of good canvas.
They are sometimes called Marquee tents, so try searching on trading post and Ebay... he may get lucky

Do they sell pith helmets as
well? (not to pith in).
I could do with one to look retro on my travels. Reckon it'd go
well with my baggy khaki shorts and boots.

Batman,
If he manages to get a genuine "Army" tent, the heavy duty dark khaki/green one, what is he going to transport it in?
They are as heavy as......... and definitely not easy to erect especially if the guys (people type) have been "catching fish" from the time they started out.
Mind you, once they are up and all guy ropes are tensioned up properly, the only two things that will shift them are 'Force 10 gales and "Fishermen"knocking the middle pole down in the middle of the night when going outside for a "P".
Despite all my -ve comments, get out there and enjoy the time together.
Disco.

I have a Marquee tent that we used for years before moving up to a camper trailer. We found it extremely easy to erect (lay it out on the ground and put the pegs in the right
places and go from there). the only downside is the weight and size. They will stand up to most strong winds (ours did a 50knots easy). Keep watching the Trading Post, we did. Ours is 12ft Sq and cost $300.We also added some extension walls etc. Son still uses it with his mates and wouldn't have anything else.

Canvas people can make anything you want. Ex Army, Marquee and about 35 other different types of tent.
yes we make Auto tents (also known as Marqee's) and they are still popular with groups and organisations for meeting areas of their camps.as other types of tents do not have the space.
I have made all types of tents and camper canvasses both in volume production or single orders over the last 40 years and am willing to either, provide advise, which is free, or provide the article. just let me know and I will supply contact getails.
