I am currently running 33" BFG muddies which are soon to be 35". I don't know if I am that impressed with the BFG's and was hoping I could get some info regarding differant tyres(35") . Minimum mud terrain as we use the car 90% offroad.
Any info and what sort of prices would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone tried the procomp X-Terrain as I think they look quite good.
Thanks.
Mark.

JT2's, Boggers, Claws, Xterrains, Maxxis new Mudzilla, none have lateral grip (sides on a side slope) ALL these $$$$ LOTS EG 33 Claw = $400 35 $450 Also none are road legal, and if you go to 35 you need engineers cert to be legal, also need it for the 33s :)
Centipedes, or Swampers are your best bet. $300-400
Or for road, coopers STTs or MTR's are more aggressive than BFG MTs. $300 FOR 35 MTR's
Lots more cost and tire than BFGs all of them, but ALL of them are a better tire I think..
If your in East Vic/
Melbourne, call Hayden of Alpine Offroad for any of them.

Truckster,
what make are the MTR, have you had any problems with the BFG's.
I've found that after a day out (presures 20-25psi) the beads always get full of crap and start to leak air, maybe it's just me.
Thanks for the quick response.

I considered the ProComp Xterrain in a smaller size (33) as it is supposedly a good off road tyre and very quiet on the highway. I wanted a reasonably capable offroad tyre because thats what I bought my GQ/Mav for.
However the Xterrain is a directional tyre (which allows them to design a reasonably quiet yet aggressive tread pattern), but the spare tyre becomes a problem because there is a good chance it will be on the spare in the opposite direction to what you need.
It may not matter that much for a short time, but I didn't want the hassles of worring about tyre direction and having to deal with flipping them over to point the right way. I have heard some people keep a different tyre (ie non-directional) for the spare, but that means you can't rotate your spare with your tyres. I also remember reading somewhere that is illegal to run directional and non directional tyres at the same time.
[Truckster] I am not sure that Xterrains are illegal on the road as your previous post implied. I spoke with the importer and he made no mention of them _not_ being legal on the road and was praising their quiteness on the road....
It took a lot of research before I made my mind up and in the end I went for the Goodyear MT/R's.... time will tell I guess.
good luck.

yea bolloxed that up, thats where that EDIT feature would be nice, I meant they were all bleep lateral grip, and the Xterrains are legal as are claws in SOME states...
13.5wide you need a 10inch rim, and they are not legal in Victoria.

Mark,
My pick, if I was soley driving off road, would be the Simex Extreme Trekker Centipede's. Heaps of grip in mud and
the rock's, and will hold you tight on a sidey.
Be warned, though, they will drive like crap on road, so if you are going to be spending a little time on the blacktop, maybe look at the Mickey Thompson Baja Claw. Doesn't have the s/s grip, but is slightly better in the mud, but not as good in the rocks as the 'peedes.
In Qld, you can run up to a 34 inch diameter tyre on a GQ, but I don't know about the width.
Geez, mate, I am jellous of ya, gettin to spend so much time off road!!

The Claws are a good tyre both on and off road. I have a mate with a set of the radial versions and he has only good things to say about them except there perfomance on gravel roads they tend to have lease grip on the gravel than most other tyres. Another good thing about these tyres are there 100% Road legel
