We're heading off with the kids at the end of Jan and plan to do three months in VIC,SA and WA.After that we intend to join the rest of you up north. We have a van that is reasonably self sufficient with water,Genny, shwr,
toilet, deep cycle etc and are travelling with 5 kids under 12.Will we need to have some sites booked up there or should we wing it and try to
free camp as much as we can?We don't have a set itinery so this could be difficult.Would appreciate any
feedback

Wow.... 5 kids! I have never booked ahead whilst travelling. If you are self sufficient, then at a pinch, you can make do in a roadside pull-off. Usually though at the very least a park would have an unpowered site, if not a powered site. I wouldn't worry.

Mate
If you come up north in the Dry it might be a good idea to book.
Grey nomads come up here in big numbers.

Out of school holidays you won't have much trouble finding sites in Victoria. Get some of their free 1800 numbers and ring ahead if you really want to. OOps, I just read your letter properly. Sorry. I think further North you might need to book. Have you got the camping guides that are available by Craig someone and Cathy Savage? They describe a mixture of free and paying spots for each state. Have a fantastic trip. Christine.
