Best Beach Camping Spots at Fraser Island

Hi, I am going to Fraser Island for the first time over the xmas/new year break and was wondering if anybody knew of any great beach camping sites?? We are used to camping at moreton island on the calm side where it is quiet with not much 4wd traffic. We have 3 children under 4 so need something that is central to facilities without being at a campground, as we are fulling equiped. Primary goals are sunbaking and relaxing near water where we can swim, yet close to attractions that dont require more than 1.5hrs drive. So all up we need somewhere great for little ones...any recommendations would be great. Thanks Heaps.. oh and we are coming from brisbane.

We have camped at Waddy Point beachfront campground (unfenced) and really liked it. They have toilets and showers there if you don't have your own gear...the water is only short stroll away and with the times you can get some nice puddles to swim in. Remember never swim in the ocean there ever. Also you must make a campsite booking before you go and there is only a number of spots at Waddy point on the beach side.....

I am very jealous

I have not been there in holidays, but was there in July-August.
Camped a few nights at Poyungan Rocks (fairly central) had a look around all the popular spots Lake McKenzie,Lake Wabby etc.
Then moved north for a few nights to Duling (just south of Ngkala Rocks)Then can explore the North, Sandy Cape, Wathumba etc.
It is also a lot quieter north of Waddy Point no Backpackers.

As Troll said Waddy point have a look in places there are some good photos.
Good safe swimming at Waddy in tidal pools. well protected from wind. But you won't be on your own. I prefer the top camp area lots of trees and shady.
But be sure to book. https://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds/
you can book online and check availability as well.
I only ever made one mistake
and that's when I thought I was wrong!

Were at Fraser early Jan this year, have to recommend Waddy point also, nice and quiet only disadvantage is that it's 3/4 the way north up the Island and is abit of a drive to the attractions a such as Lake McKenzie. Did not camp there myself, but will if I ever go there again. Tried to copy an image in for you but couldn't work out how.
Regards,
Russell.

Hi
We camped at One Tree Rocks in Sept. It is a great spot, nice shady trees just off the beach. It looked much the same as a lot of the other beach spots all the way up the eastern beach. There are no facilities there. It is only a couple of k's up the beach from Eurong, so there is a fair bit of traffic up and down the beach. The Beach Bar at Eurong was great for a drink and they also have a nice pool there which is great for the kids. There were 2 dingos hanging around the camp when we were there (they were the only ones we saw in a week on the whole island).

We also stayed at the top Waddy Point campground (the fenced one). That was a great camp and not much traffic going through. It is only a short walk down to the beach. There are toilets and showers there (showers take $1 coins). It was shady and sheltered. The beachfront camping area at Waddy Point also looked nice but with little kids I would go for the top one. Lake McKenzie is beautiful but very busy... we had to wait for a spot in the carpark. Lake Birrabeen is almost as beautiful but nowhere near as busy.
The Qld EPA Parks and Wildlife website is good and you can get a conditions report too.
We loved the whole island! Can't wait to go back as a week just wasn't long enough.
Enjoy!

Lake Birrabeen is well worth the effort. Like has been said a hell of a lot quiter then Lake Mackenzie and equally as picturesque.

Make sure you have got your insect repellant for the little ones.
