1HZ oil pressure low

Hi guys, haven't been around for a while and just got back into fourby. Got a Landcruider with a 1HZ and never had one before. the pressure runs just a tad under or right on the first line on the guage while cruising and the book says this is a little low but it drives fine with no noises and seems to be getting the oil up top.
As I have only had it one day I was going to give it the engine flush treatment and put a nice quality oil in , but if it doesnt change do you think this is a problem or is it common and nothing to worry about. Thanks.

It is probably the wire going to the oil sender switch, witch is below the oil filter to the right, just check that it is on properly. I had the same thing on 2 of my cars 3 weeks ago it just vibrates loose on corrugations.

The end of the wire is on a plastic clip type arrangement, it clips and then slides on.

Good luck Steve.

Ill second Steve's comment, although my 80 is a 4.5 petrol I had a similar concern a couple of months back where the pressure gauge was reading low. I changed the oil which made no difference. I then checked the sender unit wiring which seemed ok however there was a small amount of mud dried up on the contact which restricted the voltage. I cleaned p the contact ad now it's reading the way it used to.
Scared me for a bit too!

howesy,

My 80 Series (1HZ) showed low oil pressure on the gauge for years.

The gauge was out as well as the sender unit. I had the pressure tested by another more accurate gauge and the oil presser was fine.

When the oil is cold you will have a higher reading on the gauge but will drop when the oil gets hot.

My pressure guage sits just below the first line too. I had never consulted the book to know that this was low. Havn't had any issues and have done 40,000km with it like that. I'm certainly not suggesting that this is OK, just my experience.

In the owners manual it shows normal oil pressure to be above "the line" or slightly under.
Mine, '97 1hz. has always been just at the line when hot and about 105kph, 5th. gear.
This from new, 15-40 oil, summer or winter.

In my 100 series it sits on or about half way, but will get just over half when on a long run.I tested the pressure with a remote gauge and found it well within range. It was in the high end of the limit.

It normal for the oil pressure gauge to lose some calibration on a LandCruiser.

My 1hz 105 std gauge sits on 1/4 normally - does not move while cruising.
When cold a bit higher.
When hot a bit lower. e.g. if having been cruising fast, drive into town and pushing the engine up and down the grears I would usually see a presure drop untill the oil cools.
Was 1klate for a service and noticed an increse in cold pressures - presume this was do to the oil losing viscosity, resolved once oil changed.

Mate, the 1hz will go forever...it was ment to be in the std which only has a light that tells you its about to blow up...LOL...joke...you will find the pressure is correct and the gauge is out.

Thanks for all the replies fellas my mind is now at rest.
On a foot note it has been fitted with a DTS after market turbo running low boost and the salesman said the previous owner rebuilt the motor but who believes them but after looking around the engine all the gaskets looked reasonably new and the radiator too still with the sticker on it.
So I started to think and went through the paper work provided with the car and the DTS warranty paperwork had the name and address of the owner so I looked it up and rang him. He said about 60K ago the radiator went and he cooked it so a new radiator and an engine rebuild took place. Hopefully they did a proper job and it looks like I came out a winner.

Thanks heaps for all the replies.
