Hello, I have a 60 lt Reefer Fridge (approx 3 years old) that is making a funny noise. Sounds like water being pushed around. The compressor is running non-stop also I think. It is keep cool. Have left off over night but same prob. I have tried to ring Reefer in SA but website and phone number appear to be down. Does anyone have any idea what's happening with my fridge and Reefer?
Thanks in advance Ashley

Hi Ashley,

The Reefer uses standard refrigeration gear. Any refrigeration tech should be able to diagnose the problem and repair it.

Cheers,
Steve.

Ashley
My understanding is that Reefer are no more; Kaput.
Steve's advice above is quite relevant.

Ashley,
I am a fridgy and by the sounds of it your fridge is low on charge and has or has had a leak. The water sound is the refrigerant being pumped around and its running constantly because there is not enough gas to cool the fridge down to the point were the thermostat cuts out the compressor. Take it to a frigdy and get it checked out. Where abouts are you located?

Matt,

can i ask you a question pls.

I just got a new small waeco, i have a large Engel, but never ran a waeco compressor fridge before, and this one whilst it works very well and cuts out ok, is making that gurgling sound as the refrigerant gets around.

is this normal in a waeco, or should i be concerned?

Thanks

Ron (sorry to hijack thread a bit)

Hi Ron,
Not sure as I have never touched a waeco. I have only worked on engel's(25 year old ones that need new compressors and the like). And I have a evacool. If it is cooling alright and pulling down to temp quickly there is probly nothing to worry about. Some fridges do that. But if its not getting cols and the compressor is running constantly then I would start to worry. Hope this helps

Matt,

thanks for that. Its working very well indeed actually, and the sound is almost gone.

I'm a tech myself, not fridge tech though, but cant think on any 'running in' theory to account for this? So not sure why it would gurgle when new and improve with use, but it seems to be following that trend.

Put it on max, and it pulled down to an impressive -27deg c, seems a punchy little unit, wonder how it will go on reliability over time???

I still simply adore my 40ltr Engel, its just too big for short day trips etc, and I thought the Engel offering in this size was too small (13ltr) so I figured give Waeco a go, not dissappointed so far. Also I have the battery capacity and solar to run both on a bigger trip, so now can have fridge and freezer.

Rgds

Ron
