Anyone know of any nice camping spots in the Coramba, Ulong, Upper Orara area near coffs?
Am looking to spend a couple of days around there. Would prefer bush camps or state
forrest camp sites rather than caravan parks etc.
Any info appreciated

A really nice spot is
Platypus Flat - a bit further out than where you've mentioned. From Ulong, head west to Cascade (about 20 mins), keep going west and you'll come to
Platypus Flat (on the
Nymboida R) (about 30 min). It's a basic
bush camping spot with minimal facilities (or was when I used to go there!) Before you get there, you come to a 90º left turn, with a track heading straight on. About 600m to Red Cedar Flora Reserve where you can see some huge Cedar and other trees. Return to the road and go down the
hill to P.Flat. Keeping on will get you to
Dorrigo, but don't miss a detour into Norman Jolly Reserve where you will see - I guarantee it - the biggest trees you've ever seen. All these are 2WD
places unless it's wet - and Forrestry will have closed the roads if they're too wet.
Haven't been up there for years, but used to run 4WD tours throughout the area about 17 years ago. It's beautiful country with plenty of
places to explore - eg. Mobong Falls.
If you are a Member - which I hope you are (everybody everywhere should be!!!) - you can send a Member's Message if you want more info about the area.

Thanks ofr the replies. Have camped at Platypus flats before and yes it is very nice. I was really hoping to find somewhere around ulong or coramba. Ther are a couple of state forests, but I cant find any inof on whether or not you can
bush camp.

There is a nice spot called
The Junction which is on Kangaroo Flat road where coming from Coffs to Glenreigh just before Glenreigh there is a turnoff to the left, follow that road and at the first T go left and at the next
fork continue right and head up in the hills. You will eventually come to another
junction and veer right there. Continue on and there will be another
fork, veer left there.
The Junction turnoff is quite a few k after that and is
well signposted on the left. After the signposted car park it is a definate 4wd track to the river and is not difficult in low range. I have been down there in the wet and dry.
The camping spot beside the river is beautiful and there are pit
toilets, picnic tables and wood. You will enjoy the solitude if you do not mind sharing with a very large goanna who will pay you a visit.
Enjoy, Graeme
