I took the old girl in to have what i believe is an oil leak repaired with only one month left on the factory warranty. The foam thingy between the gearbox and the block is oozing oil. Not a drip yet but was a wet area on the base of the gearbox.
last week it went in and the report came back.
"looks like it may be the rear main seal but just to be sure we have cleaned off the oil and would like you bring it back in a week so we can double check as it seems you have used non genuine oil filters and what we find is sometimes these can leak"
Bollocks me thinks but ok I can play the game. Anyway tomorrow it goes back in to be checked again but the thing is it hasn't oozed any oil since but if you squeeze the foam thing its full of it.
I can't see how it could be a leaking oil filter as it is the same on the other side
I suspect they may have squeegeed the excess oil out of the foam thingy so it doesn't leak until the warranty expires. Am I paranoid? I have heard so many bad things re nissan warranty.
They do have great waiting rooms though tea coffee TV. I even had a little booth with internet access to do some bookwork while I waited. Mind you 1.5hrs to check a leak.

Cheers Jim

HI Batboy, You have bought it to their attention before warranty expires so if it needs repair after the expirery date and they don,t want to know about it, straight to office of fair trading, no second chances.

The dealer gets paid to do warranty so I doubt they would stall. Main thing is you reported the fault within the warranty period. Perhaps they used that 1.5 hour to chat with the manufacturer who has to ok the work?

good luck anyway.

Yes they get paid for warranty work, and it's hard to imagine why they wouldn't want all this paid extra work, it's money for jam, but I suspect they get paid less by the factory per hour than what they charge you, so all this time doing warrantly work eats into the normal work which thy're charging alot more for, so they probably lose out with warranty work and hence aren't that keen on it

Yes they might get paid to do warranty work but it's against their nature. All nissan dealerships take an oath to be as gready, unhelpfull, slow as possible and to never let you forget why you should have bought someone else's vehicle. Anyone else vehicle, just don't bother Nissan about your faulty Nissan cos they don't care.

Hi All,

I don't think Nissan Dealers are alone in"be as greedy, unhelpful, slow as possible and to never let you forget why you should have bought someone else's vehicle" Holden Dealers in my view are not much better.

Hey anglepole

I read your comment and LOL because in Darwin the Nissan dealership and the Holden dealership are owned and operated by the same THIEF.

Cheers Steve.

Yeh, and here in Kadina the same thieving mongrels sell Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Subaru!!! Never seen THAT before, but it happens here.

One of these days, just for a laugh, I'm gunna go in there with a straight face, and ask the salesman whether I should buy a Cruiser, Patrol or Territory. !!!!! hahaha

Jim

Have done a couple of posts on this.

Take a large bladed screwdriver & knock the foam block out it acts as a huge useless sponge after oil changes( suppose to be a sound deadner)
Spray with degreaser wash off end of story.

Cheers Steve.
PS Nissan service is S@# & they would string you along until you are out of warranty then want big $$$$ to fix it.

Jim,
Steve is right.

The oil accumulates from oil changes. It dribbles down from the filters into the foam and after about 6 services starts to leach oil. I pulled the foam out and threw it away. No more oil in the garage and the noise level in the cab didn't increase.

Cheers
