ohyeah
Just wanted to find out some more information on 98 to 03 Prado models..
In particular:
- any known mechanical problems
- fuel consumption on the petrol models / diesel models
- what accessories can be added to them (ie - bull bars, duel batteries, etc )
Im looking at buying a Prado and keen to know the best model for value.
Cheers

Rack and pinion steering and what we are finding up here is with oversize tyres and corrugations the racks are destroying themselves. The last one a few weeks ago parts were ex japan and took us two weeks road freight to find and get one. punches a big hole in the middle of four weeks annual leave.

Had one for about 2/3 months now. VX Grande V6 3.4L V6 Auto. Now Ive come from a 2.8 hilux so anything comfort wise and power wise is a huge improvement. The main thing I can comment on so far is fuel usage. Around 14/15L per 100 around town and 12.8 Towing camper and 12.2 without. Havnt taken off road yet due to get new OME
suspension fitted so will give it a good try out then. Other then that love it. Yes huge amount of accesories are available including rear diff lock. I've only had one issue which is a thumping noise on take off but waiting till OME goes in to make sure its not a shockie then if still there will try a few things that were sugested on here. Top Vehicle how good off road compared to hilux I dont know but I think the hilux had more wheel travel but I will find out. As far as the diesel goes there seems to be some issues of late with blown head gaskets but cant say wether its a common thing or not but seems to be a few reporting it lately with just over the 100k mark. Regards Steve M
