All Pajeros of that vintage had major problems with 5th gear falling off. In this oldie it may have been repaired already. Used to occur bewteen 80 and 100,000 clicks. They are pretty sluggish trucks but will go forever(apart from the gearbox, that is...lol)

Cheers

Yep, definetaly issues with the gear box. They use the same parts inside as they do for a sigma.

Im not aware of any rectification, my pajero ended up with the same issue after several months of getting it repaired.

They are also notorious for rusting in the sills around the door and the roof.

Apart from that, bullet proof vehicles, I used to take mine places I wouldnt dream of going today, then again, I was young, dumb, and often full of rum!!

Another thing i'd like to know if anyone can offer any clues,,, does this model ('84) share a stud pattern with later model Pajero's or indeed with other make 4x4's such as rodeo/hilux/????
Also like to lay my hands on a workshop manual if anyone has one they'd like to sell
Thanks, Earwig.

Hi Earwig, i think you'll find that the whell stud patterns will be the same on most 4X4's (as long as its 6 stud), just the offset of the rims will differ... Sorry, i can't help you with the service manual. Hope this helps

Cheers, Brad

Earwig, i aquired one also, picked up a haynes manual from repco, but you can get them anywhere. It's not to bad, a bit vague in spots though. if they exist, and if you can, check out a gregories, maybe they might be better, but i'm not sure.. All the best and have fun. Mines not going yet, turbo's stuffed, but the gearbox has already been fixed! Yee Haa!

G'day Earwig, I also a 1986 T/D Superwagon. Never let me down, only hassles were waterpump bearings and alternator bearings. Had to get a mobile mechanic to do the waterpump as I didn't have access to enough gear to fix it at the time as the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer has to come off along with the front engine cover to get the waterpump out. Alternator was easy with off the shelf bearings for about $15.00. Had the timing belts changed by a mechanic too as its a big job with 2 belts as the Mitsi diesel has 2 balance shafts. I still have a Haynes manual as there is no Gregories for the diesel Paj. If you ever come to Eastern Victoria you can have it!
Cheers Darryn
