Hello,

My son has an old GQ that is starting to show signs of its age. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with that Flushing Oil Concentrate/Clean Power Fuel treatment that is regularly advertised in the 4WD Monthly.

It is sold by a mob in Wacol Qld and claims to fix all the ailments of an old diesel simply by adding it to oil/fuel and flushing.

Thanks in advance
Kev

Kevin E,
if the motor or accessories are worn then adding concentrates & cleaners won't fix the problem it will be money down the drain, overhaul the worn components is a sure cure.

A lot of jap diesels are carboned up and sooted up. If the rings are badly carboned up they will not seal and are in danger of breaking so a good flush and clean out can help. seen itr work on hino concrete truck that was smokey from to much ilding.
What have you got to loose?

Its a waste of money , if components are worn , especially in a diesel , the only way to bring them back is an overhaul .

And if the motor is glazed from too much idling , it is a definite waste of money , I have seen a lot of would be cures over the years , and the only sure fire way is a complete overhaul :)

Kevin

There is a product CEM (Cost Effective Maintenance) ph 07 32714138 in Carole Park Qld, which is an engine flush.

I bought my GQ with 260,000 on the clock, used the engine flush and she has run well ever since. It is expensive(about $100 for 500ml) and you need to fill up with new oil, add the flush and then after a short while drain the oil again and refill with new oil. And remember to change oil filters too. A lot of sludge came out of my engine.

I then started using 50ml of Flash Lube for diesel engines with every tank full of diesel and at 334,000 the engine is running very well.

Nissan 4.2 naturally aspirated diesels are good for 500,000 to 800,000km despite what some of the above posts suggest.

Cheers

Good on you Willem , yours is a success story , and of course Nissan 4.2 naturally aspirated diesels are good for 500,000 to 800,000 km IF they are looked after , same as Toyota Diesels , they can get to the same , but if any diesel engine is worn beyond it's tolerences, none of your additives will do anything for it , apart from taking money from the owner :) And a diesel engine from new , doing regular maintenance , changing oil & filters is highly unlikely to be sludgy in my opinion :)

Cheers

Hi Peter,

I've used CEM in an old diesel and it flushed out a lot of crap and ran much better afterwards.

As Willem says, $100 is a cheap way to free sticky rings, etc.

I'd be really pi$$ed off following your advice to tear the engine down only to find no appreciable wear and sticky rings. A good way to spend $5000 when $100 will suffice.

I guess you must be a mechanic looking for work?

And any engine following strict maintenance from new can develop sludge, contrary to your opinion.

Hi Willem Gerhard and Peter

Thanks for the imput. Yes that is the product that I am considering. I wasn't sure if I could mention the brand name.

Like you say $100 isn't too much to loose if it doesn't work.

Peter, I think it has only done about 350-400k so it shouldn't be work out and he doesn't really know the history in relation to servicing.

if you regular oil changes you should not have a problem. Never heard of engine flush being included in reg service unless someone ripping you off.

My Toyota has done 695000 and it don't use any oil other than usual, if an Engine don't use oil it won't last long, mine will use about a liter in 10,000klm , instead of using a flush give it a dose of Nulon in the oil at each service,

Hi

Thanks to you all for your imput. I don't believe that the engine is 'work out' as I think it has only done btn 350-400k,

I think I will give this a go and see what happens

Hi kevin E
I would avoid any stuff that u put in with fuel it may seem like its working and things r running smooth but after time it only stuffs all seals in the pump then u r up for a $100 bucks or more to overhaul that, with the engine flush well it cant hurt much but onlly clean away slug i did that with the old 89 navara diesel all seems ok still and that was about 200.00kms ago al done it on the GQ all still good
Good luck with it go the NISSAN ha ha LOL

PatNav , bought the vehicle at 310k as a 1 previous owner with books , by the books oil was changed every 5k and filter every 10k since new , since our ownership have changed oil and filter every 5k give or take 200klm using Valvoline super diesel , always 9.8 lt in and 9.7/9.8 out at an oil and filter change , used the CEM flush at 340k and got out 12lt of the blackest crapola have ever seen ,was like "treacle" , now still do oil + filter at 5k and oil is still "golden" , the original flush uses 1/2 of the bottle and leaves enough to use the rest over the next 10 changes , all the nay sayers want full rebuilds , WHY when preventative maintenance is so much easier and CHEAPER.

I also have a 1992 80 series turbo diesel with the 1HDT motor...

I also used to change out about 8.5 litres of oil per change.. did the engine oil flush (can't remember the name of the one I used but it could well have simply been a Nulon flush as I think they are all pretty much the same as each other).

When I dumped the oil out after running the stuff at idle for 15 minutes I dumped out over 10 litres...

I don't know where the other 2 litres of stuff was hiding before but in my opinion it is better out than in...

I also have reasonably clean engine oil in the old girl after a few thousand k's.. but by the time I do the 5000k change it is pretty much as black as any other diesel I have seen.... from what i have heard this is perfectly normal though...

No impact on the oil usage between changes...

My motor has just under 310,000 klm on the clock and sounds and runs pretty good!
