G'day Folks

We are looking to take a Hilux 3.0TD across the Simpson in October (Simpson Desert Bike Challenge support). Average consumption around town / travelling is 11 litres / 100km. Any advice on what to expect in the desert probably with about 450kg load of gear, water etc

Thanks

apolgies - I'd looked and looked for the fuel consumption figures on the site, knowing they were there, but not looking in the right spot. Have now found the figures thanks to the webpage designers. Would still appreciate responses from Hilux owners. We only have a 115-litre tank and don't want to carry any more jerry cans than is absolutely necessary

Hi John,
As a rough guide I have usually taken my onroad fuel consumption and then doubled it.

Eg; On road 11Ltr/100km
Off Road 5.5Ltr/100km

This works OK for me but there are so many other things that may effect fuel consumption;
Soil type, weather conditions, vehicle capability, vehicle load, driver expertise, even atmopheric temperature and humidity.

Good Luck with your trip.

Double the figure or divide.

Eg; On road 11Ltr/100km
Off Road 5.5Ltr/100km

Hi Olcoolone aka Richard

Apologies to all

Double it to 22Ltr/100km is correct,

Just a seniors moment while typing.

I usually work in Km/Litre, the official system is crazy IMHO.

Is everyone else getting about the same mileage? I'm also getting about 11L/100km or 9km/L around town. Just interested to see how my economy is comparing to other 3.0TD's.

G'day Heefers

Had my 3.0lt D4D manual since Feb and only done 4300k so far, been getting between 9.5l/100k (best) and 10.4l/100k (worst) around town.

Only done one trip to Grampians fully loaded with camping gear and got 10.4l/100km for the 600k trip included 300k of driving around the Grampians tracks.

Steve.

I get about 11l/100km round town but it drops off on a trip - I guess due to wind resistance at higher speeds.

Yeah, I find anything over 95 km/h and the economy goes out the window.

Cheers guys
