Well, it was in this
forum where I read "Better looking at it and not need it than looking for it when you need it - or something like that....
And I agree with that. I rather pay some $ for good equipment than paying with my life for a insufficiently equipped car.
We drive ours in the African outback and things can get pretty bad when you get stuck. It's always a question where you drive a car. Surely you won't miss recovery gear much - even when you actually need it - when your driving just 20km away from the next city. The same situation can get much more annoying, maybe even dangerous, in the bush.
This is why I want to be prepared. Of course we drive mainly on bitumen or gravel roads, but there are these days when we go off road and for those days and weekends, I want to feel perpared when driving in the bush.
It's the same with the tyres, the
suspension, the
snorkel or the rest of the car: most people actually drive 90% of their time ON road and would never miss those things ON road. But during the 10% off road, you want to know that you can get where you want. I want to have a 100% off road capable car, and not one which goes on strike in the middle of nowhere.
Besides, the Patrol has a good LSD in the back and this is why I was trying to get something like that for the fron.
But having all these open issues about problematic maneuverability and alike, I might opt for the Air locker. Despite the price...
Ah, perhaps one more question: most people seem to complain about the on-road driving of the Auto Diff Locks such as Lokka or lockright. But when you're onroad, you're certainly in 2WD (in the case of the Patrol) and thus it would actually act as an open diff - wouldn't it?
