We already own a Navman iCN520 and plan to purchase OziExplorer and Hema maps CD but have not used mapping software before.

Can we use our iCN520 as a GPS receiver for the moving map function so that our position will display on the laptop screen?
Has anyone had success at uploading routes and POIs from Ozi using a Navman or is it too laborious?
Also, if Navman is unsuitable, we would appreciate advice on whether to purchase a GPS mouse or a hanheld unit and if so which models or features are most appropriate. We've been looking at Garmins and Magellans so far but are feeling a bit bewildered by the myriad of options. Many thanks for your response.

A GPS may suit your needs as they use a USB port and don't need any power cables. It just makes the cabling simpler.

I don't have a Navman so I can't comment on swapping POIs over to the laptop.
Usually it would be the other way around.

While some navigators can use waypoints I think you will find waypoints are more easily managed on the laptop.

On a laptop, I use the Natmap Mosiac 250000 for whole of Australia and I have the UBD map as well so when I enter a large city the UBD takes over as the map and when you leave the city it reverts to the topo map. It doesn't talk me through routes but it seems to be all I need.

If I have to go to an address in say Adelaide. I plot the route and waypoints before I go and then just follow it in on the map without it talking to me.
