We are wanting to travel around Australia and then ship the caravan overseas to continue our travels somewhere else (undecided yet, NZ, SE Asia, South Africa are all considerations). Has anyone got any idea how much it would cost to ship a caravan internationally?

It costs a fair whack. We have some Kiwi mates who shipped their van and 4WD to Aus and then back again and it cost something like $13000, as
well as that they had to pay some sort of bond to the tax people in case they sold their van whilst o/s. Got it back later on.
They did say that it would be cheaper than hiring whilst over here for 6 months.
There is a roll on roll off ferry that runs between NZ and OZ but not for passengers. You hve to ship the car across and then fly over.

I heard 2nd hand Winnebago's are very cheap in the USA.
I would fly over to the USA, and then do your trip.
When you get back to Oz you will sell the unit and pay for the whole holiday.

P.S.
With the Oz dollar so strong I may bring one in for myself. Only if available in 4wd.

I priced a 20Ft container to NZ and it was about $3000 return and 40Ft to SA is about $2500 one way.
If the car and caravan can fit in a 40ft cotainer it is cheaper than 2 x 20Ft etc.
