as far as I am aware it's just badging. Others will confirm. They haven't been produced in quite a while but you still see a couple of rippers around.

Corey,Yes, it is just the badge,we have always owned Nissans and bought a new Maverick in 1992, it was a great vehicle, no trouble, it was 5 years old when we traded it in on a new 2.8 turbo diesel Nissan. We have since sold it bought a new 4cylinder car for runabout and another secondhand diesel Maverick for fun and travelling. We are very happy with the performance and economy, and keep it good condition. You should be able to pick up a real beauty at a good price. We picked this one up at a Nissan caryard for $11,000, with sidesteps, winch, rustproofed, bullbar and brush bars, and a good stereo, had $2000 spent on fixing minor problems. So we paid little for the vehicle when all the extras are added up. You will find the price in the badging many $1000's different.

Yes- same vehicles, just badges and different equipment levels/models.
They both went down the same production line in Japan.

There was a difference with the early petrol ones being Carb on the Mav and EFI on the same year Patrol. Only relevent if your looking at the petrol models?

There is one difference regarding diff ratios. Maverick 4.2 diesels have 3.9 diffs whereas GQ's have 4.1 (manual trans). This is because Mavericks have smaller diameter tyres 215/80R16.
