bonz, you should put your order in ASAP cos the flood of ex Nissan owners not wanting the 3.0l option will create a huge backlog.
Don't delay, do it NOW.

IMHO, based on past performance I would definitely wait at least 2 years from release for a 200.

Toyota make excellent vehicles but are an even better marketing company and are very skilled at getting maximum $$$ out of the pockets of loyal fans. The easy pickings are the early birds picking up new models. These models tend to be minimal spec (everything an option), rigidly priced with carryover mechanicals where possible. This of course will have no impact on demand, just profit margin. A couple of years down the line once the original rush is over, the real fruit will arrive.

Toyota will only move spec when it is felt in the market, this is why the Prado took so long to get the new TD, people still bought plenty of the old one, for too long!

Just take a look at what was on offer when the 100 came out compared to what it is now.

I also predict the 70's arrival could be setting the 200 punters up for a big price hike, moving the 200 up market, either that or it (the 70) will disappear (less likely).

Now what would really p^%$ people off is if they restrict the twin turbo TD to the LX and use the 70 engine in the initial release 200! Won't stop it selling like hot cakes though.

Hear, hear,

I bought a GXV V8 in April '98, I think it was the irst one sold on the Gold Coast. It cost $96K OTR with the only extra being a towbar. THe GXL cost $65K OTR the only differnce being the engine and front suspension. There were no luxuries fitted and none an option, not even leather seating. Thge current Sahara, which is arguably the latest equivalent, is still about th same price as what I paid 9 years ago and has al the fruit standard. Even the VX and possibly even th new GXL, both a lot cheaper than what I paid in '98 are far better equipped.
As I write this I am getting angry at Toyotas tactics and will make sure I buy the Disco when I return from UK later this year...and I look forward to hearing all you LR bashers response..nice to know that Alan Whiting..basher of all things Landrover..has just bought one..surely not you say..?? Reliability..? No problems with the D3 he says.

G'Day All,

No need to get angry at the "sneaky" tactics of Toyota.

There have been many books written on how the company operates.

Read one and all will become much clearer. :)

Regards

Rolande

John,

Allan Whiting is the Technical Editor of 4X4 Magazine. Read the editorial in the May '07 edition. Apparently there was an article in the April edition on the long term test Disco which Allan has bought foolowing his fairly long term evaluation.
I am in UK and haven't seen the April edition and only just now subscribed..Oh..and I am an Aussie by the way..!!

The problem with editorial of any description printed within the various 4wd magazines is that they are inherently biased towards the company that spends the most on advertising with the respective magazine.

In other words.... They are filled with the most pronounced crap you can find and are totally biased in their opinion.

Save your money on your subscription and join a site like Exploroz, you will get far better first hand advise and opinion on any product you may seek comment on.

Cheers

John,

Firstly, Allan Whiting is a guy I respect a lot except thyat for years he was a Land Rover basher and totally biased against them. He, like a lot of others rated the D3 very highly in the 4WD of the year but were concerned with long term reliability. He is now convinced of their durability and has bought one thgat has done some very hard yards as a long term tester.
And, I have been a member of ExploreOz for a while now and am thinking a more appropriate name would be "Exp;oreOzinaToyota" such is the unbelkievable bias in their favour . Its enough to make me not buy one on principle and I did have a bad experience with my '98 GXV and did Toyota or the dealer care....hah, not a peep out of them after I broke the front diff after only 3 months...took them 2 weeks to work out it was a metal fatigue problem...broke the teeth in the pinion wheel. Did they offer an expalanation? Did they offer me a car tomuse? No way mate and I hd just bought a vehicle that cost (was not worth) $96K...Toyota my ass....

Don
I doubt very much that the technical staff of a 4wd mag would buy any 4wd they were testing and in any respect if he did it would have been on a deal that made it to good for him not to.
The deal would have no doubt been linked to the size and shape of the advertising contract signed with the respective magazine.

Sorry must have missed something regarding your Toyota issues???
But if you want a Disco 3 then thats nice, I'm pleased for you, in the end its your money.

Lucy "nutserts" are a highly technical piece of engineering product that if fitted to a Jeep will cause all sorts of issues, so don't even think about them. :-)

John, Lucy fitted nutserts to his jeep for some gadget attachement or another, hence his interest as he is quite adept at inserting them.

This forum is in no way a toyota4um, rather it is a "standup for my vehicle and bag the others" forum, in the great tradition of aussie baggers. Theres more toyota drivers cause theres more toyota's and that is only a fact to prove that you can fool ALMOST ALL of the people most of the time. Unless you own a 3.0l Nissan then the hype proves you can fool ALL of the people almost all of the time.

Don theres much more to Exploroz, wait till you ask about you Waeco fridge, or your Cooper tires (sic), or your OMS suspension, or your ARB compressor, or your tunit engine chip, or your Milford cargo barrier (hey I dont think we've done them!) or what tyre pressures you run, or your neighbors cat.

I need to re install my cargo barrier and top shelf unit in the new Troopy, they are bolted to the vehicle with nutserts.

Aaaaaaaah! not right at the moment BONZ.

Thanks for taking/making the time to offer access to your extensive knowledge on the subject of UHF radios.

ALL READERS PLEASE NOTE :

BONZ is the 'man', UHF expert if you have any queries what so ever in re your UHF setups.

He also is excellent on what are the most efficient and effective performing makes and models, and even more knowledgeable on how to fit them in a highly professional manner in most 4WD's. (Disco's and all things Land Rover excepted).

If you don't know him - I can vouch that he is the most affable, approachable person around who is always willing to help those in need of advice via his vast experience with UHF radio's and most other things 4WD such as fridges, tyres and suspension setups.
