When we load our waypoints and tracks, they are 200km exact north of were they are meant to be, have tried different Map Datums. Does anyone know how to fix this problem.

What maps set are you using? .I had a similar problem and found that if you are using Natmap Rasters and have up graded to the current series (2005) make sure that the *.map are the latest series and not your previous set

Are you sure you have the right datum set up in your configuration?
For example when you look into your configuration setup under the Maps tab do you have the correct Country or region selected?

Can you provide more info about the types of maps you are using?
Where did you get the .map files from?
If you picked the wrong Australian datum I would expect errors of up to 200 metres to the north and the east, not 200 km.

Did you do the map calibration yourself or is it one provided by the map suppliers like Hema? Have you checked the map calibration? There could be a wrong entry for a couple of points. Also how many calibration points did you use. I would suggest no less than 5 for an accurate map.

I got the map "Australia Political_OZF.map" from Oziexplorer website, it only has 2 calibration points, how do you make more calibration points? 1st on at the
ashmore reef where lat and long lines meet, 2nd near
Bendigo where lat and long lines meet.

Hi Graham,
I downloaded that map and it is not all that ideal due to its low detail and lack of lat/long lines. However I did load some of my waypoints and tracks and they are relatively close to the mark give or take 50km or so.
When in the calibration screen, to add more calibration points just click on the 'Point 3' tab on the right which will bring up some cross hairs where your mouse cursor used to be. Move this to where the lat/long lines cross and click as close as possible on it. Enter your lat/long co-ordinates in the boxes and repeat for 'Point 4' and 'Point 5'. Try and zoom in as close as possible for more accuracy. I usually have one in each corner of the map and one in the centre. The more you have, the more accurate (or less errors) you will be/have.
In configuration I have my datum set to WGS 84 wherever it has this option.

David

Graham & Lynne, I have one map just like that where I have just not bothered to do the calibration of that particular map since I got the raster map. Gives me the irrits if I want it on the PDA as the others are ok.

Hi Graham & Lynne,
First of all what type of maps are you using,
I think I know what your problem is if your using the 250k maps
For example lets say we are using 250k Raster/Natmap and we want to view the
Adelaide map, the map you should be opening is SI5409
Adelaide.map
and I think your opening
Adelaide SI5409.map . The map number should be before the name of map
I also had this same problem on my PC , buy now it's fixed.
Try this and it should work.
I hope that made sense

Graham & Lynne, when I have a problem like that and there are a few other towns or significant points on the map, I try and get the correct Lat/Lon off another source and then use these as calibration points.
This method is useful if there are only a couple of Lat/Lon lines on the map.
Even get the right Lat/Lon of another map that you know is right.
There is a website that gives the Lat/Lon of most towns and cities in Australia, but unfortunately I have lost it off my bookmarks, perhaps someone else has got the site.

I had this prob when I first imported the natmaps and failed to set the N/S to south latitude. Later on when I had driven into another zone the moving map was thirty kilometers out then I noticed I had not set ozi to read the correct zone. For example sf 54 13 means the zone was 54 and I had come from zone 53. Please dont ask me for more detail because I have forgotten already how I did it. Then it was a pain moving from map to map. The latest natmaps are suppose to be merged already so I guess the problem does not occur. Next time I go for a big trip I will get the new one or get the magellan sd card with topo and streets. Money I dont like to spend but what the hell.
