Hi all, have a 1993 GQ n/a 4.2 diesel auto and at times the idle speed slowly increases to approx 1000rpm. Mainly when stopped at lights and select neutral with a/c off. Is regularly serviced and air filters appear clean. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, How many km sometimes the throttle butterfly can wear along the shaft allowing more / less air in causing leaning /richening at idle. I had this happen on a 2H yota years ago.
Repleced the butterfly shaft and presto all better.
Regards
Tour Boy

Thanks for the response Tour Boy, have done 300ks and have now noticed that it happens if I am stopped in a nose down attitude and go to neutral, does not seem to occur if nose uphill. So you could be on the right track. Will
check out the throttle assy this weekend.

there is no such thing as a throttle body on a 4.2 nissan patrol, first thing is switch air off and set idle to 700 with idle screw on injector pump, then turn air on and idle should increase to 750 if not adjust air diaphragm on side of pump switch off air idle decreses to 700 maybe air idle up on pump is faulty

Thanks Pastie, I realized Tourboy must have been talking about a petrol engine when I tried to find a throttle butterfly on the nissan. I suspect you are right and the idle up pump? may have an intermittent problem as the old girl will generally idle normally and increase revs when a/c turned on . However sometimes when city driving and I pull up at the lights and put auto into neutral, no aircon on, the revs slowly increase to approx 1000. Makes for a jump start when I put it into drive.
