Sorry that this is off topic for forum but I have a problem with reading some messages received in Outlook Express.

I get this type of message

Have recently downloaded latest version of Spyware Doctor and don't know if that is the cause.
Any assistance greatly appreciated and sorry again for the off topic message.

Best thing you can do with Outlook Express is get rid of it. It's the worst mail client ever written.
Far better to use either the full version of outlook, which comes with Office, or a open source program such as Thunderbird.

Hi John

Not all that clued up on mail clients but I have seldom had an issue with Outlook Express. Once I lost some stuff but I recall I retrieved it eventually. On the other hand I have thried Thunderbird and it did not work for me. I suppose it is what one gets used to. Having had to use dial-up for 10 years was a deterrent of sorts. Now with Broadband its all whizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....lol

Cheers

I agree with you John. It is one of the better tracks to get viruses spread into computers.

Spot on advice , dump it, I installed incredimail 6 years ago and never had a prob since, when I was on outlook it always used to freeze crash or stall, not any more, do yourself a big favour and go to www.incredimail.com just follow the prompts takes about half hour on dial up but is well worth the wait and it's FREE...........
head & shoulders above outlook,
regards,
Dave

I should have said "worst email client next to incredimail..!!!!
Seriously, have spent more hours than I care to remember trying to get that garbage of friends computers. Most malware ridden piece of garbage I've ever come across.

Wouldn't pee on it.

Thanks for all responses.
I contacted Spyware Doctor people and they had me disable the new version that related to emails, and will advise me further on why this has suddenly happened.
I also run AVG,System Mechanic 6, Zone Alarm and my feeling is that there is a conflict somewher between the new Spyware Doctor and one of these.
Donks,
At one stage I could not enter data in excel because when I clicked on a cell it highlighted several cells .
That was a bit of a worry.
However, after disabling the email part of Spyware Doctor and closing down all was OK on reopening.
DaveT,
I did have incredimail some years ago and it took over my computer, so I took it off and so I tend to agree with MrBitchi's comments.

I have a lot of folders in OE from emails over the years and am not sure how to transfer these if I did transfer to another programme.

When you install Thunderbird you get the opportunity to transfer accounts from other mail programmes. I think all your mail can be transferred as well. Give it a try.

Peter,

Interesting isn't it. I was going to suggest you look at what security applications you were running and which might be causing the problem.
When one has the time to analyse what has changed to cause the problem, it usually turns out to be something other than an application you have been using successfully without previous problems.

So much for all the advise to "ditch Outlook Express".

The fact is, its "free" (comes with Windows) and generally works well.

I have personally been using Outlook that comes with the Office suite of applications for many years, mainly because that is what my multi-national Computer Company Employer use and support to hundreds of thousands of clients all over the World.

Outlook Express should work as well as the full blown Outlook, minus a few "enhancements" that probably don't matter. Other companies generally test their products against Microsoft ones to ensure compatability.

It just so happens that other applications like Nokia PC Suite also integrate well with Outlooks Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Tasks functions, so if you wish you can carry appointments, etc., around with you on your phone, instead of the need for another separate device. Why ditch it?

So ignore the "get rid of it experts" for they give you false advice.

Too true - OE is a simple POP3 client with no Spyware in it, unlike other IncrediNASTY spyware riddled crapware like Incredimail, or other incredibly horrible free mail clients which only support text mail and have never ending issues with attachments.

Would add what is probably the obvious - make sure you have the latest Outlook Express version. If you don't, it's quite probable that you will have issues with proggies like Spyware Doctor (which went through a horror phase a year or so ago with causing crashes with every second update).

In my view, mixing too many things like AVG, Spyware Doctor, Zone Alarm will also give you a headache - none of the purveyors of theis individually OK stuff ever test it with anything else. If you need all these things, get it in a one vendor package. You will still have issues even then, but far fewer - most of the mag reviews of the "all-in-one" firewall/spyware/virus packages comment on the sluggishness they cause.

Of course, the Microsoft bashers would blame Outlook Express.

I wouldn'y say off topic , all my answer notices from EO come via Outlook Express
there was a void space in your message,

MrBitchi don't know ###%^&&$#@ , Outlook is one of the or THE best to use, the thing is you have it set it right , Outlook can be dressed up with all types of HTML , it works a bit like Frontpage , Trouble is people have a little gliche and can't fix it so then get something else .

Been configuring mail clients since before Bill Gates got out of nappies ;-)
I pine for the days of Pine, when all email was text only and simple to use.

I stand by my comments.

I will finish that statement, !

I use Firefox, and Incredimail ( as my email handler, because it has fancy add on's thats all )

Now the same mob that do Firefox, also do an email handler called Thunderbird, and by all reports its reasonably good.

You can also try Eudora, or Opera.

As far as I am concerned, they blow the doors off Outlook Express, and Outlook and are less succeptible to problems.

SHORT ANSWER:
It sounds like something, quite likely the firewall (spy doctor) is stopping OE from allowing those emails to display their web content.

LONG ANSWER:
It seems that emails such as those from exploroz require OE to retrieve the picture/logo/colour etc content from the web. So in essence, OE receives an email which says 'go to x location and grab all this formatting, logos etc, add text and display like this . . . '

I get the same result you have been, quite frequently in my Outlook junk email box, the contents of which outlook won't allow to access the web, or emails which I prevent from doing so myself.

I'd start by disabling the firewall and seeing if that makes a difference. It is unlikely that messages already in your inbox will be able to rectify themselves, so you may need to wait for a new one to come in. If that does fix the problem, it's then a matter of figuring out which setting in the firewall to change, as it's not all that desirable to have no fire wall at all.

If the firewall is not the problem, I'd next look at OE as the one doing the blocking. That'd take some fishing through the settings, and I'm not all that knowledgable about OE.

Not sure if this has helped any more than any of the previous posts!!

Thanks JohnR
My firewall is provided by Zone Alarm and part of the Spyware Doctor programme has an Email Guard which blocks certain incoming emails.
PC Tools advise that this appears to be too sensitive and have suggested I disable it.
Have done so and all seems to be working OK with OE now.
