No, no another trans Tasman joke but a question about breeds of sheep.
What breed are the fat tailed sheep around the Gascoyne region called? I see a few getting around with the normal Merino's. They look to be bit smaller, have a very fat tapered tail (middle eastern?), more of a hairy coat rather than thick wool and seem to be mostly have a brown and tan colouring.
If this is a stupid question feel free to pay out on me. Sheep aren't my strong point.
Cheers

Little old lady exclaimed " My goodnes you were quick, I have only just performed that illegal operation".......................LOL

Probably Damara sheep.
This breed of sheep comes from Namibia and is bred for its good meat quality. Fraser Range Station at the start of the Nullarbor run, sruns these sheep alonmg with Merinos.

Not just a novelty any more, exotic sheep breeds are becoming the choice of many producers and this time it's the fat tailed Damara proving its worth on a coastal pastoral station in Western Australia.

I also think they might be Damara sheep, especially if there are different coloured ones in the flock. Thay are not all white. There are various browns and greys as
well.

The Damara sheep often are mistaken for goats, I know of one station that has big signs saying they are not feral goats, don't shoot them!

could be Awassi, they were brought in to about 10-12 years ago and always refferred to as fat tailed. They were middle eastern as well. Could be them
