We just got back from a three day photo shoot in the
Flinders Ranges and whilst not covering every track or road a couple of things stand out for those preparing to travel there over
Easter etc
Overall the floods have done plenty of damage but the positives are that the road crews have been working frantically to tidy things up to get the main roads drivable and safe. But you need to be aware that the crews are working all over the place so please slow down as you past and keep the dust down.
Private tracks need to be checked with each property to be sure.
What to some of the dirt roads look like?
Well picture several grids fully exposed and
well above the current ground level. This was a road! All the sub base had been washed away for kilometres. Darned amazing and a warning of the force of a flood.
Dust. Plenty of it due to the silt that has been washed down and over the roads and tracks.
Weather. Last three days were very humid and in the low 30C
Above anything else the place is looking green with new growth showing on trees that a couple of months ago everyone was worried were going to be lost due to the drought. But many have succumbed to the flood so creek lines are strewn with huge old gums torn from the ground. Truly sad and spectacular at the same time.
Is it worth going? Of course!

Gday Rob,
Didn't call in at
Bendleby by any chance? Just wondering how they fared.
Cheers

Phil
Bendleby is fine but the roads over the back that lead into Craddock all pass through a lot of creeks and evidently that area has been heavily eroded. You will not believe the Craddock
Creek crossing. The creek itself has been widened by around 300 metres to give you some idea of the force and volume of flooding. That area had two creeks converge so whilst not completely sure of the conditions on that particular set of back roads you can probably expect them not to be in great shape for a while.
But
Bendleby reported some good rain which will help slow the decline of their large gum trees for a while
If you are planning a trip up there then contact Jane or Warren but the road via Johnburg is fine so access to the property should be OK
