Hi everyone.
I purchased a 2002 100 series about a week ago.
Problem is the engine is ticking once it gets up to operating temp, 1200 rpm onwards mainly when engine has no load.
Seems to be quite loud underneith but you can here it up top to, but makes it hard with all the other noise in engine bay.
Toyota is having a look at it tommorrow for me i just thought it wouldnt hurt to get some ideas of you guys, as they seem to think it is gear box wich i disagree with.
Only ticks once it is warm the pressure gauge sits on half once warm and nearly 3 quarters when cold thought this might have something to do with it. Definately engine noise, can only notice noise with window down i
test drove with windows up (stupid), I have read maybe injector's or valves. Please help.

Sounds like the tappets need adjusting.
How many K's on the vehicle?
The tappets should have been done at the 70K service.

Sorry it has done 92000, Hopefully that is all it is. Other than this problem it goes really
well no smoke and plenty of power. Thanks

Mine (1999 with 143ks) does it too but not on Biodiesel.
Probably should get the valve clearances adjusted, but it's not caused me a problem.

Hi Aaron
I have a 2004 TD troopie so not sure if this is relevant, but think they may have very similar motors.
Mine started making a ticking sound at about 25k, yes you can only hear it with the widow down at idle.
I have been told by Toyota that it is crankshaft flex & that Toyota know about it and that it is not a problem. Though to my mind i can't say i'm real happy about my crankshaft flexing(if thats what it is).
Good luck and keep me posted please.
Regards Lyndon

Guys. a friend has a 1hz that stuffed the main bearings...now i dont want to be an alarmist, but do yourselves a favour and change the oil filter with oil, and cut open the filter to see what it has caught, get the oil tested at Castrol lab, and at least know it isnt or is, because the later is expensive to fix when it all goes pear shaped.
Back to my mate, he put new bearing shells in and away the noise went.

Had the same sound problem on a Jeep 4.0 litre straight six and it turned out to be a leaking exhaust manifold gasket.

Hi guys.
Picked car up today toyota say its crank shaft flex and there is nothing you can do about it. Ive told them that i want that documented and i was going to do the same so that when the crank breaks they will be replacing the motor for me. I have heard this is a problem with quite a lot of the 100 series 1hz motors. Im going to sit on this for a day or so and might try and demand a new crank and bearings. what do you all think ?
