I have a 1998 GU Patrol (4500 petrol motor). I want to install a second battery in the vehicle for fridge, lighting etc, I will need this for an upcoming trip. I have had a look in the engine bay and there appear to be no clear space for a second battery.

Can someone please advise on a good location to install second battery. Any other tips/advice on second battery installations would also assist.

Thats right no room we put ours in the back been they since new 2003 put it on top of the wheel arch in a battery cradlle, of course took the rear seats out and put in a drawer systime BW and it fits well the fridge sits on the same side space is well used, in the rear side panel is the HF radio and solinords for the 2nd battey and spare belts & hoses. We used the 1500amp Odyssey DC and it is still going strong the battery has a date on it of 2002 so i think that pretty good.

mate you can fit it under the bonnet
if you dont have abs the piranna (from TJM) make a battery tray that goes horizontally across the fire wall i have just fitted it in my 2004 GU as a third battery but you do need a lower height battery
or if there is room longitudunally above the wheel arch passenger side wher i have my seconf battery
see you greg

Very interested in where it can go under the bonnet. I have the 4500 GU with ABS and dual fuel. No-one has been able to come up with a solution yet.

I am told it is possible without ABS but with it the bonnet is "full as".

Currently I carry a "jump start" for emergency backup. Touch wood it hasn't been required yet.

Trev,
It depends where the gas is ?
Basically you use the original battery as your aux and fit a Odyssey 600 CCA for your starter battery, we usually use a Redarc isolator so if any problems you can manually connect them.

Been doing them for years for the Nissan dealer no problems!

I also have a duel fuel 2000 4.5. The way the gas is set up there is certainly no room for another battery

This is our setup.Had the auto elec do it for us and he used an ARB tray, did some drilling and relocated th washer bottle slightly lower/higher? shifted the black cannister to the end of where the battery sits. Hope this helps a bit? unc!MPG:54!

Hi Shakey

Perhaps the 'FLYER' pack is the easiest option. A 120 a/h AGM fits into the box.

Regards

Derek.

Shakey

I have a dual battery set up on my 2000 GU 4.2 TD. I had problems because of the ABS. Got a battery tray from ARB and they informed me that it would fit despite the ABS. Wouldn't fit and recontacted ARB and returned the tray for full refund.

Purchased a Piranha battery tray from TJM and it fitted without any problem.

As your is a different year and motor I cannot guarantee that it would fit your vehicle. I suggest that you contact TJM and they will advise you if they have a tray to fit.

I found that by changing my battery to a better type I didn't really need a second one , however for a while I removed the centre console (as its bad use of space) and had battery there.

Now though I use that space (between front seats with console removed) for a Waeco 25lt fridge.

there was a batt tray, pre-drilled and everything for the petrol gu.
i think i got it from O/Lock.
involves moving something and some small pipework.
mechanic did it in about an hour.
sits against the passenger firewall.
ps i am not a mechanic.
