Hi Merylin,

Yes you can. We build solar powered repeater trailers/huts that use the Steca brand regulators (various models) and we use additional means to charge the batteries depending on the customers requirements.

We regularly have a 400W wind generator that charges the batteries alongside 3-12 80W solar panels. Also some mines will setup a generator and high current charger in cases of high useage/prolonged bad weather (if no wind generator fitted).

There is no need to change the regulator to Voltage as the SOC is just a simpler indication of the batteries voltage.

I am in the process of setting up an 80W panel with 3 stage regulator as well as a 15A 3 stage 240V charger in the back of the Patrol to keep a 260AHr AGM charged. I will still rely on alternator charging to put in the majority of the charge however.

Regards
David

Hi Merylin

As mentioned yes you can use the voltage reading function but one thing you must not do is try use the regulator to regulate another power source. This will damage the regulator.

Any other power source must be connected directly to the battery and not to the regulator.

Derek.
