Just a guess but Melville Toyota had a mass reshuffle of the high visibilty side of the car yard today and there is a very conspicuous line of vacant spaces yet to be filled tonight. I know the Toyota car carrier ship is in port as I saw a lengthy convoy of new Prado's with dealer plates travelling along Leach Hwy.

Hmmmmm..........I wonder what else lies deep within the bowels of that Japanese registered vessel?????? A V8 diesel perhaps?

Hi V8 - Please let us know if you see any of the V8 diesels turn up - no doubt there will be a big press release when they are ready to reveal them, but they will arrive ahead of time and be hidden ready for show when the time comes.

(I'm sure i posted a similar reply last night but it was not here this morning - only mentioned V8's - not even a remote allusion to a feline.)

I seriously think, the ute version has the V8 diesel tuned to the power and torque of a 4 cyl diesel, is because Toyota dont trust 200kw/650Nm powering that car. It's not that heavy, and probably doesnt sit on the road and handle like the big American trucks, which is a shame because the 2007 Corolla 2.2 diesel puts out 130kw/400Nm@2000rpm. Bring on the Tundra and Land Cruiser 200 though!

Spot on I'd say.

The 4.5 1FZ-FE 24V petrol was available as an option in the FZJ75 (79?). A mate has one as his work ute and it lights up the rear tyres easily.

I have heard of someone coming to grief on splits rims by pushing a petrol FZJ75 too hard by attempting to wind it off the clock.

Re: the big yank 4x4's. I have a video of an F250 that pulls 11 second quarters on diesel. Not relevant, but impressive non the less.

I wonder which Aussie car builder will take the lead and make a V6 TD in a family car. Performance and economy with the 'diesel' legacy for the old school boys too. It seems so blindingly obvious I'm staggered it hasn't happened already. They would monopolise the rural market.

Mate if anyone would take the initutive to do that they would take the market. I cant understand why no one has bothered. Both ford and holden have acces to some very good diesels. I think they tell us they are not coming so they can make a splash ro maybe to put the opposition off and prevent an arms race.

Still nothing there. I'd say it's for reno's now, not a new model release.

Wishful thinking on my part.
