If I was to go down the path of a V8 diesel conversion, does anyone know how much I could hope to get for my 1HZ turbo diesel engine with 180000kms on the clock?

Doug T,
As a matter of interest have you done a compression test on you aged 1HZ?
Mine has done 300k and is running well but I have been wondering how much more life is likely to be in it. By the sounds of yours, quite a bit!

No mate , no compression test done yet, I change oil every 10.000klm , Sometimes add half to 1 full ltr in that distance, when it begins to visually blow oil smoke then I guess I will know it's time is near, If it aint broke , don't fix it

Doug,
Don't diesels burn oil anyway (light oil), a bit more won't hurt too much. :o)

Thanks Pete/madfisher. Great news. I won't have to buy a new car for the next 20 years! Hopefully the rest of it will last as long.

The price of used 1HZ has been high but they are starting to fall.
They go from $2000 up to $5000 depending on which parts such as AC pump, starter motor and alternator are sold with it.
The turbo could turn some buyers away and attract others.
A compression test in writing from a qualified diesel mechanic will go a long way to getting the price you want.
It will be also easier to sell if they can hear it running before you pull it out.

If your selling the whole engine with all the bolt on peripherals I would ask for about $4k .If you dont want to haggle make it clear in your advert.

cheers for all that, i'm just still having problems with it getting hot and have always wanted a V8 diesel so I thought I would start to get an idea how much it will cost and what are the pros and cons.
