FM 320s must be a museum piece by now - these are the first purpose built UHF CB radio built in Australia.

What do you mean by VHF - do you mean the HF CB band on 27 MHz or something else. The answer to converting to 27 MHz is NO. The usual question that was asked way back then was "can it be converted to the UHF police bands."

Why would you want to reprogram an ancient phillips UHF radio to VHF , that's if you could , I personally think it's impossible, it would almost be a complete transplant of components,If you want a vhf go and buy a vhf.

You're spot-on Doug.

UHF frequencies are four to five times higher than VHF bands, so the components inside cannot extend themselves to tune to frequencies that mucher lower. It is physically impossible.

Even the UHF radios that can be programmed to have extra channels do so in a narrow range of frequencies that are inside the tuning capabilities of the components.

Mike
C'mon , I know you know better than that, You can't compare a piece of crap to a Yaesu The yaesu is a purpose built Radio , the Phillips was built as a Citizens Band UHF Transmitter, So in your opinion what does he do to it [ the antique ] to get it to transmit and recieve on a defined section of the VHF band, On second thoughts NO don't explain , they won't understand it plus the forum's not big enough
