I haven't done it, but know people who have.
Its a private road. You need permission to travel it from Mulgaria Station.
Phone No 08 86758313 and I believe they charge a small fee for use of the track.

have friends who have done that run, a few years ago now, through Mulgaria Stn - my maps show a PAR will just about take you the whole way. They're away now but I think they enjoyed the trip and said it was desolate and rocky. I am sure someone will be able to assist you more. I’m hoping to go through there in April so let us know how you go. JD

As responded already, there is a fairly easy station track which I took about 18 months ago through Mulgaria Station. Permission is required and a small fee payable (don't quote me but from recollection it was about $20 per vehicle??)

Google it and you will find the details. If "Mulgaria" doesn't give it to you try "Torrens Track"

A different way home but certainly nothing you need the "little stick" for.

We camped at Farina which wasn't bad.

Cheers

Reasonably easy (to drive) track which also gives you access to the top of the Lake which is I think the longest lake. Just a couple of things don't drive on the lake and don't go racing through Mulgaria homestead. Some idiots went roaring past the house a few years ago and nearly knocked down one of their kids so they closed the track down.

It is only abot 150km long but don't be too complacent. It is remote. If you break down in the middle when it is very hot it is 75Km to help.

Believe it or not there are some rock outcrops in the middle of the sand country and also some waterways that could be tricky if wet but all in all a good run.

Red,
We ( YP4WD club) did it last year and you get a permit from the glass bottle store at Andamooka, and I think you can also get them from the mobil servo.
We camped about 20 odd ks from town the first night and took our time, including a lookout part way along, and then out to the lake edge, then camped again about 20 odd k from Farina the second night.
Its a good run , not difficult to a vehicle with clearance, but cant be driven fast.

Cheers Pesty

We camped near a creek bed just a little East of the intersectin with the track North to Stuart Creek Opal Field. A 10 minute diversion to the abandoned opal field is worth while. Also the track runninmg South from this intersection goes right uo to the edge of the start of Lake Torrens (5 minutes). There are some as yet unidentified small fish at that point.
The track North from Andamooka (assume the direction you want to go - we west West from Farina on the Lyndhurst to Maree road after the 2002 Year of The Outback Great Cattle Drive Slim Dusty party at Maree), before it turns East has quite a few small sand dunes , was O.K. with CT (4WD engaged).

We travelled this way in September last year and didn't see anyone else along the way.

We paid our money at the Mobil at Andamooka, they then ring the homestead so that the people at the homestead know that someone will be coming past. This is just a saftey precaution so that no one is stranded out there.

The Andamooka end of the track is similar to the Simpson, but the track changes all the way along.

Well worth looking at the mining area at Stuarts Creek at the edge of the lake as well.
