Hey Crazy Dog, never really thought about it till now. Personaly neither brand make a portable fridge big enough to hold the beer and snags I like to take away on long weekends. My best friend is a 150 ltr ice box. No battery, fuse, condenser, electrical issues. Simple basic and blurry cold. Luv it...........Lionel.

Agree with that, Nissnut; until I travel really remote why spend all my hard-earned on dual batteries, solar panels etc for something that has half the capacity of my ice box? A case of big boys toys, me thinks. That'll stir 'em up ;-))))

Oh you poor Puppy Dawg . DID you buy a fridge with that Name on it , I have a W and have had no worries with it ,Then I had a Truckie tell me the other day his company bought 6 and only one was any good, I say to myself that statement was B/S, My belief is that both brands are equal , just that one has a more expensive Name on it.

Why is it that something as mundane as a fridge causes so much heat?????
Its worse than politics and religion combined on this site.

Oh so true.

They are a fridge. They keep stuff cold. Nothing more, nothing less.

Who gives a continental about the brand?

I bought it about a month ago. Looks like they just changed their special to have containers rather than the cooler. Still a good deal though.

Juzzy....that's a mighty big difference in price to the 'end of line' 40 ltr Waeco I recently - $282 and it is brand spanking new. Already have a 40ltr Waeco I bought 6 years ago and it runs exceptionally well. Intend using the new one as a freezer in my campertrailer.

Its the same when you go to the wreckers to buy a Nissan part. They are just not there. Buy a Toyota part and you may take a handful. That is because there are so many more Toyotas in the world. You heasr more about Engels because there are more of thgem. Waeco is a Johnny Come Lately cold making device.

Woof...Nice puppy.......................

LOL Yes after pulling the steering column apart trying Hot Wire the truck, I found it lying under my jumper on the passenger seat. Do not recall putting it there but remember having lots of things in my hand so much have put it down there. Then Jeddah walked over the jumper and the key fell down on to the seat and under the jumper.

What a relief.....bloody old age...:-)))))))

Lesson learned. Will find a hidy-hole somewhere on the truck for the spare.

Cheers

Willem, Waeco are far from Johnny come lately cold making device.

Just new to the "retail" portable fridge market. But agree with your point Engel is better known in Australia for it.

Please elaborate on the Waeco in Australia. Engel Fridges were around in the 1970's. I do not recall every knowing of Waeco's until about 5 years ago.

Willem Waeco were established in 1974 and started out building fridges for yachts. They then expanded and have pretty much had the luxury car fridge market to themselves. So although relatively "new" in Australia for portable fridges there designs have been used here for quite some time, we just weren't aware of it.

Obviously now they are having a big push with lots of marketting on the portable car fridge market which has thrust them in to mainstream.

For those who are interested Engel started in 1962
