Forgot to ask. Am looking for a reliable communication system when travelling the high country. CDMA has been recommended. Has anyone had experience with this and how reliable is it.

twandy. Yes CDMS is more reliable than GSM in most outback/mountain areas. We have both and always got better service from the CDMA (with
Orange).
Orange CDMA uses the Telstra network when you are outside the large city areas. Ian

the only area where the above comments on CDMA having better coverage doesn't hold true is in the Goldfields of WA, where many of the mines have put in their own GSM towers. i know this doesn't concern you, but others might be interested.
Cheers.

Thanks all. Have a good map now from Telstra on coverage and a good starting point on systems. I don't worry too much about getting lost just snake bites and being on my own. That is an excellent web site.
DON'T UPSET ME! I'M RUNNING OUT OF
PLACES TO HIDE THE BODIES.
