Hi all, Just been thinking about what to do with the sagging i get when i load up my Ute with a few tins of paint and a couple lockable boxes. approx- 80-100kg ussually i carry at times, some times more.
I used to own an old XB falcon and Came with Airshocks, found them to be great when i had a heavy trailer in tow. Any suggestions.?
Regards
Chrisco.

icecold,
The black bellows system works
well on these, best of both worlds when you carry a load pump them up, no load let them down.
The bags will handle 2 tonne, made by polyair in
Sydney.

My old man put air bags on leaf springs in
Perth (from ARB) when he got back to
Darwin he wasn't happy with them, He was told they would help with the load EG caravan. He rang the manufacturer and was told they weren't load bearing devices he was also told to take them off and return them for full refund . He did this and for half the price had
the springs reset and put a helper spring in the pack he had no more problems.

steve&anja,
Did he have the black bellows or the red bag inside it's own coil? and were they a polyair product?

Icecold.
Try air bags, used them before & far superior to air shocks.
Have a look at the traders section there is a set for sale at a good price.

We have just completed 10,000 km. Testing the air bags and tyre pressures.
I think are bags are only designed to maintain the vehicle designed height up to
the GVM. not to increase the payload.
The GVM is 3.3t for our vehicle and for the testing we have done the GVM was only
2.9t so the air bags at minimum 5psi had not reached their operational height.
I expect
the springs to settle down in the next 10k and the air bags will be a big help
off road.

The ones we took off the old mans car were red but I still think reset and helper spring is cheaper, By the way I have a 78 series that carries 9 pax daily for 5 months a year to Jim Jim and Twin fall works for me .
ps JUst saw your other post they were the same style as the black one but red not sure what brand they were from ARB.

The red bags in there own coil do not work
well on leaf springs, in coil sprung vehicles they are great! with leafs the only way to go is the black bellow type.
For constant heavy loads extra leafs are ok but it must be a pig with no load in it.

My experience with leaf springs includes 75 and 78 series troopies over 13 years the same guy has reset my springs over this time and its always worked in that time I have drive conservitly 750.000 km + . He also told me the coil air bags I had in my 80 series were not load bearing and not to use them as such, He has serviced the 7 Toyota's Ive used in the last 13 years and next month when I buy my next Toyota the fist place I will take it is his work
shop.
The question is you base your opinion on what
ps the troopy is for work I have 2 soon to be 3 GXL's to for the softer ride .

The air bags in a 80 series are load bearing, sure they are not intended to lift a vehicle but are there to maintain original height under load.
As i said for constant heavy loads put extra leafs in no problem, but some people don't always have a heavy load.

My interpretation of load bearing is putting a load on then pump up to original hight so I agree with you on maintaining original hight . But if your carrying a few tins of paint a ladder or 2 and a few
tools you don't need to spend heaps on stuff you don't need.

Ride Rite air bags have worked
well for me over past few years on my 79series.At times when i'm carrying a heavy load or towing i just add a bit more pressure. When not under to much load i run at about 8psi.
Cheers Ant.
