Ok, we have gone for luxury and ditched the roof rack and tent, and bought a CT. :O0
So I have the car spare on the back door of the car, and a spare on the CT for the CT.
But when we used to travel remote, we used to carry a 2nd spare on the roof rack.
Now we are trying not to use the roof rack, since all of the gear goes in the CT.
So when we are away from the CT on a day trip, hopefully going
places we couldn't go with the CT, how do we carry the 2nd spare for the car in the car?
Bit worried about 20 plus kilos of tyre loose in the back behind the safety barrier.
So thinking of making a bracket to bolt it in the back, or else a bracket in place of the back
seat.
What does every one else do with a trailer.?
Or should I just put the car 2nd spare on the CT and leave it behind for the day?
Take one spare and some tyre plugs?
Am I being too worried?
What is every ones experience who tow trailers?

Been there myself - we have a Campomatic hard floor trailer - when closed, it has the metal rack on top - we carry a used spare case or two (mot wheels) up there, depending on where we are going (not too heavy to lift up and down each day) - with a spare wheel for the car and trailer for starters, we intend to call on these cases at the next service centre that we drift into, should we trash a tyre - just in case we get a second flat, we have some tyre changing/repair gear that we 'might' be able to use at a pinch :-0)

Thanks for that.
I was looking at my CT spare carrier on the draw bar, and it has room to put a 2nd spare there. May do that.

Hey Odd,
I used to have the same deisel as yours in the
pic and in my travels, came across a bloke that had bolted a bit of steel bar on to where the fold down rear seats used to be on one side. he then used a ratchet strap to hold it tight to the support.

Thanks,
Sort of thing I was thinking about.
Post and strap sounds easier than making a full bracket.
Good one.

I would have thought that you would carry tyre plugs with you at all times.
I think you worry too much. How often have you had to use your 2nd spare whilst travelling?
Cheers

Good point.
Have only had the occasional flat.
Normally in the middle of no where.
Felt a bit safer nowing I still had another spare to go just in case.
But never used it.
Actually, I most probably have 'loaned' it to more people to get them out of trouble than I have used it.
Yes, I worry too much. I do carry tyre plugs.

Hi Oldplodder
We have done five big trips now 3 of which were towing our Tvan. Before the first trip, I had a Kaymar carrier installed which gave us an extra spare. With the CT, we have 3 spares, spare tubes, big red compressor and tyrepliers and have used none of it. (we use the big red to re-inflate tyres after lowering them for sand driving). It is so important to drive to the conditions and watch out for sharp pointed rocks on the road. Take it easy and you might not get into any trouble at all.
Cheers
Peter

Definitely yes to all that.
Not so easy to fit a rear carrier to the paj when there is already a spare on the back door. :o)

Hi Oldplodder
You said "....Bit worried about 20 plus kilos of tyre loose in the back behind the safety barrier. "
When I carry my second spare it gets strapped vertically to the cargo barrier. Doesn't take that much room and doesn't go anywhere.

Same here. I bought a special 3-arm strap and hook setup with a ratchet buckle. It normally sits vertically against the rear of the cargo barrier but I can use the same straps to tie it to a pair of roof bars if I need more space inside.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Already have fridge in the rear.
Maybe take out the back
seat and strap the tyre to the front of the barrier?

Sounds OK. I'd make pretty sure that the straps are substantial though. A 20kg wheel would do quite a bit of damage in a prang!

I always prefer the heavy stuff BEHIND the barrier. If necessary I can fold the rear seats (or take them out) out and move the barrier to the forward position to carry more stuff behind it.

Same problem, old mate. I reckon I can knock up a wheel carrier under & behind
the axle of the "scroogemobile" C/t. Like you I could fit two on the front but with a
box full of spares & stuff already there I thought under the back would assist
weight distribution. May affect departure angles a bit but not going in the real
rough stuff anyway, hope to make it removable anyway. Tempted to only take 2
spares but my rubber isnt that flash, just too good to replace, if you understand.
I have to get it built shortly so may report in how it goes.....oldbaz.

My concern to, too much load on the draw bar with 2 spares and a large box.
I have a
water tank under the rear, and could maybe sling the spare under the front of the CT. That
water tank in the back does help draw bar weight, i.e. cuts it down when full of water.
