if the new emmissions laws say that all vehicles must be direct injection, isnt the nissan td42 a pre combustion ? or have nissan changed it lately. ( and they might want to get rid of that 'ye olde stoneage' pushrod valve train too )

TD42 gone since end of '06.

ZD30 going common rail early April.

Old news, has been round for ages.

Well its an interesting question.

Toyota has just signed with Isuzu for Engines and technologies and it wouldnt surprise me if Nissan did a similar thing. Isuzu are the largest manufacturer of Diesels in the world so they must know a thing or two.

Isuzu also have a joint venture factory with GM in the US for the Duramax engines. These are getting rave reviews in the states and killing the Ford and Cummins diesels in both performance and Economy.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

BTW Ive just purchased a 2001 Patrol ST with a brand spanking brunswick conversion in it.............WOW!!!!!

Cheers
Geoff

I would agree with that, but I dont really think nissan are taking the 4wd market seriously anymore. They arent even attempting to keep up with the opposition. Blind freddy can see that. Its a shame, cause the rest are not that flash. a good engine and Nissan would be way out front again, but I honestly cant see it happening.

Duramax wont fit patrols, its been tried. :(

Nissan and Renault share engine development, with Nissan taking the lead on petrol engines and gasoline on diesel. Renault have a lot of diesel experience. What this means for new engines I don't know, but the ZD30 is a Renault engine. Assume that they've done the common rail development.

I reckon yer right Mr T.

Toyotas have gone soft road. Nissans can't put a decent engine in 'em and the rest are just "plastic fantastic" with lots of doohickeys, electronic doodads, and that 'Must Have" - "Finger Tip Four Wheel Drive Selection"

Another of a load of other things to go wrong..

There's no real 4WDs left anymore.

I reckon if you 'stretched' out the front of a Patrol, you'd get a Duramax in there.

Remove front body panel, remove radiator mounts, line up with existing engine mountings and fit engine. Extend rad mount rails/cross member and possibly chassis rails. Make and fit new front body panel.

Simple.

The problem with the Duramax is indeed size but also the massive amount of Electonics associated with them.

Toyota has a dual turbo diesel V8 Coming out this year but once again the mechanicals are probably not going to be as strong as the Nissan and plus that stupid all wheel drive system that just sucks juice. So I can suppose we can look forward to an ultra expensive to buy and run Landcruiser without the option of switching off 4WD.

Geez some companies have strange Ideas!!

Id love to see a new style patrol with the Duramax in it............WOW!!!

for the 100 Billionth time, Nissan will be using the International Navistar 4.5L V6 diesel (powerstroke 6L V8 minus two cylinders) for the Titan, Amarda - and i would bet Patrol also.

Titan, Amarda - thats the american market.. not here.

and I'll believe it when I see it.

I had a bloke buy my GU rims who owns a dealership who had just come from some dealer meeting telling me a different story, but we shall leave that alone for now.
