Can anyone recommend what tyres I should go with for SWMBO's X Trail. Current size is 215 x 65 R16. We use it mainly for on road work but want a long lasting tyre. I was thinking about an LT type tyre but am open to suggestion. The OE tyres have lasted about 55k they still have some tread but are very vague when in the wet hence needing new ones.
Cheers Kev

Kev, We're also on the originals on my wife's Xtrail.
Not a common size, but Cooper have the Lifeliner SLE
You may also get some ideas on the Australian Xtrail
Forum who have a long running tyre thread.

Phil,
I had actually thought about these but had not seen or heard about them before, but one would expect that they would have a reasonable life span.
Thanks Kev

Yep,we got about 50,000km out of the original set.
215's are hard to find at the right price. Have now shod the Xtrail with a set of Goodride's. Dunno who makes them. Got then through our local Tyrepower bloke.
SWMBO only travels on bitumen and some gravel roads in the district. New tyres have 9,000km on them and look as new. So should get 50K out of them.

Thanks Willem
I have a tyre power just up the road, actually they are the closest tyre retailer. I'll drop in and see what they can offer. How much did the Goodrides cost fitted??
Cheers Kev

I had a look at the invoice. The tyres are distributed by Westlake. Tyre name Goodride (never heard of them...probably Malaysian).
215/70/R15
www.westlake.com.au and go to their Passenger Tyres and look for H400.
$131 ea fitted.
Cheers

Thanks Willem,
I'll do a cost comparision between those and the Coopers and see how I go.
It will be interesting to see how
Sydney prices compare.
Thanks

Hi Kev
After far bit of work we decided on
dunlop grandtrek AT2 for our RAV4 which is similar car with same size tyres.
We'd staked a couple of the originals and wanted something that was tougher but still had all the road manners.
Its one of very few Silica based tyres in that size , and hence has both superior wet weather performance, fuel economy and some off road credentials (for an AWD).

Our experience with the Tribute, RAV4 and the X Trial is the factory fitted Bridgestones are they are not the best. In the Tribute and Rav4, they quickly set up a dull roar which drove us crazy. In the X trail it did not occur, but friendly tyre man indicated to stay away from tyres where the patern is identical acroos the tread.
My ladies being a cruiser, uses 235 and wow the prices were very expensive. He suggested that we use the SIMEX, which is a Malaysian built continental. Very quite and good in the wet. As the RAV4 does not go off the bitumum, I cannot comment on their off road.
The interesting thing was that the original tyres were the most expensive $295, Cooper at $205, and Kumho at $175, and the Simex were $140.
Makes one sort of wonder.
