Gday all, Just heard some interesting news from a jeep owner in regards to posts 41977 and 41928 which may be relevant to the two jeeps catching fire at Stockton beach.

Jeep is now doing recalls due to some wires or connections??? needing to be replaced in the heated seat models because of the possibility of interior fires, would be interesting to know weather the two jeeps had heated seats.

Maybe coincidence, but If you are a Jeep owner it may be worthy of checking with your dealer whether your model is exempt

Cheers

That puts a new slant on the term hotassed.
Lucy is under threat from fires eminating from his seat in the jeepney wether he has seat heaters fitted or not. The frequency of those explosions down there in any vehicle that he was in would be under risk. :))))))))))))))

"There is only one Jeep"

Now we know why - the rest of them caught fire.

If it keeps going there will none left.
They will have to come up with a new slogan.
There were once Jeeps

All the best

A few years ago on our one and only trip to Robe SA, our party consisted of some 8 - 10 Jeeps. Yes, it was a Jeep club and I owned one of them.

Our trip leader had managed to bog himself after trying to go around another bogged Jeep. The trip leader left his vehicle and walked off to try and help somebody else in trouble and after about 30 mins, during which time the vehicle would have had probably ample time to cool down. Mind you, the day wasn't particularly hot nor had the vehicle been given a hard time.

What then happened is that one of the boys decided to jump into the trip leaders car, without his knowledge, and try to power his way out of the bog.
Now remind yourself here that this vehicle had been sitting still without the engine running for over 30 mins, yet within 200m of this "powering out" manouvere the jeep caught fire from auto. trans. fluid being sprayed onto the exhaust. Fortunately we were able to extinguish the flames immediately but the trans was dead.
We had no other way of extracating the vehicle from the beach other than sheer pulling power of the trip attendees. That's right, we dug and pushed it out by hand for some 600 - 700 m out of the beach.

Lovely spot, but we haven't gone anywhere near the place with our club since.

..........we don't drive a Jeep anymore.

Cheers. GU

Stu-K, the one on the web was an older one and the other Cherokee was an 05 model jeep which burnt to the ground right in front of the shipwreck sygna last year, both unexplained fires and just speculation as to how they caught fire!

My friends jeep that has been recalled is an 04 grand cherokee and the recall letter that was sent to him was saying that it could possibly start a Interior fire from the seat heating.

Regardless of the age of the vehicle, I thought that it may be relevant to point this recall out on this site for any jeep owners that may have heated seats....for what its worth anyway.

Have a 05 KJ CRD without heated seats - thank F (Oooh! sorry David)

I am not going to sleep tonight thinking of the things I've done to it and got away with it seems.

Definitely the Troopy when I go to the sand.

seems quite possible 1995 auto commodore were recalled for possible auto fluid boiling & discharging out small breather hole at top of filler tube onto hot exhaust & catch fire.

Don't recall that being the case exactly. Memory from working at the General is getting rusty so you could be right, but at about that time there was a recall on Commodores where a trans fluid line was about 10mm short with squeeze clip clamps. Under extreme acceleration (eg. police/teenagers flooring it from a standing start) the torque twist created enough movement under some circumstances for a trans line to pull off and squirt hot trans fluid onto a hot exhaust with predictable results.
