Hi guys/gals

Could anyone suggest the best way to Lorne with a caravan, should I go via Colac or just along the great ocean road from Geelong, Thanks

Geelong - Winchelsea - Lorne is pretty good towing wise, and then again the Great Ocean road drive is nice and would present no problems towing a caravan.

IMO it would be far easier to tow that first section of the GOR to Lorne then trying to come in via Colac

The GOR 80 KPH all the way to Lorne. The bends don't start until after Lorne

chez, it helps to know where you are staring from mate. If Warrnambool best through Colac, Ballarat probably the same. If you were starting from the centre of the universe, I would probably go via Colac too. You could go to Site Link and use Smart Trip

You know the old story from the Irishman chez, when asked how to get to a certain place answered "if I ws goin' there I woulnd't be startin' from here" Well I knew that would most likely be the case. Hope you have fun there mate and have a safe trip.

I live in Lorne and have towed the caravan in from both Colac via Deans Marsh Road and from Geelong via Great Ocean Road.

My recommendation? Come along the Great Ocean Road. There is only one very windy section about 8km out of Lorne and its only for about 3km. There are plenty of places to pull over to let traffic clear and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the view.

The road in through Deans Marsh is a climb up and over the Otways and about 25km of fairly twisty narrow road. I have driven it with a 20ft van but the Ocean Road route is a better drive for both the scenery and the road conditions

true, the hairpins don't start till after Lorne, but it is MUCH MUCH MUCH quicker to go via Colac, but then i was speeding on the way back

As I was once told by a countryperson ( in the UK, but they are all the same ) ...

"You can't get there from here, you had better start somewhere else"

I was down there yesterday towing a CT, from geelong I'd just go down the Anglesea road and then on the GOR, it isn't that hard. Winchelsea might be a good alternative and through Deans Marsh. I wouldn't go via Colac, looks far longer.
