Guys,

Need a quick response - heavy duty esky boxes - plastic or fibreglass? Which brand?

It will take a bit of a battering in the back of the work ute from the boys.

thanks

Tropical range are plastic and damn tuff. Keep ice well too. We use in in boats to store fish in ice slurries and good for a few days out.
cheers

Hi Steve,
Both esky's that have been mentioned are great, I have one of each.
For what I believe you are going to use it for I would go the Tropical, its a bit cheaper than the EvaCool and I think it would take the most abuse without giving in

Cheers with Beers

I'd go plastic. Tropicool are the labels I always see- The ones I used are white ones from slingrig but cant remember the name.
The plastic ones seemed to have more give in them when they smash into other hard stuff like toolboxes and I prefer the moulded handles around the top instead of just 1 or 2 metal handles the fibreglass ones seem to have.

If you get anything bigger than a 160 Lt, consider getting a hiab to unload it from the ute. Also dont setup your swag right next to it or you'll be kept awake from the sounds of mini avalanches inside the esky.

Have a look at the Techni-Ice (plastic) range on ebay (sellerID " unbelievablycool ")...

Every bit as good as any similar make on the market, and w-a-a-y better value if you "buy right"..
e.g., I got a 60L ice-box + 18L esky + "umpteen dozen" Techni-Ice sheets package delivered to my door for less than $100.00.. Did this on 3 separate occasions (gave 2 of 'em to my adult offspring;-)), & at least one of 'em was less than $90.00 delivered...

Try and beat those prices at your favourite B&M camping store:-))))

Yep, I also pick up one of these before xmas for the Father in law. He has only good things to say about it too. I picked it up rather than delivery too, in Frankston Victoria.

a couple of friends have bought the techniice eskys and they are fantastic. Incidentally, I bought a 120l with 12 techni ice packs for $138 tonight on ebay. Why would you pay $300 bucks for a tropical?

It's not the size of your esky.....oh and it's white which keeps the ice a little better. Something to consider when purchasing.

For what it is worth i paid $375.00 for an ICE MATE from eva cool, yellow plastic jobby and it is very good.
I took some convincing that $375.00 for an esky was good value but it is. Mine is the IMO78
