A positive note for the 4 W Drivers, Just got back from Fraser Island for the annual clean up and what a great week end, 21, 4wd clubs attended with just under 1000 people doing the clean up on Saturday morning, in that time, 75 cubic metres of rubbish was collected, either washed up on the beach or left by campers and backpackers, ( not all campers and backpackers, only a small hand full )hopefully next year we will break the 1000 mark, and hopefully get a bit of media attention as well, maybe Mr Scrubby could come and get his hands dirty, do a bit of work and see the positive side the majority of 4WDrivers do instead of bagging them, i was especially impressed to see the amount of children involved as well, after all they are the next generation of campers, so if we educate them now they will then pass that on to their kids.
The whole event sponsored by Toyota, they put on free entertainment Saturday night, with live band, free food ( heaps of it ) plenty of prizes and give-aways, so i would just like to thank everybody who was involved, i know i will be back again next year.
Dave.

Hi Babs, i'm not sure whether you have to be a club member or not, the clean up has been going now for 7 years, it's on every year over the Australia day long weekend, it is a great weekend, and they are getting more people each year which is awesom, each club is given a section of beach to clean up, it's not just rubbish that is collected, but also involved in noxious weed eradication as well, all camping fees and beach permits are waived for the weekend and the barge fare is half price, you only work for about 2 to 3 hours on the Saturday morning then the rest of the time is yours to do what ever you want, so it does make for a fairly cheap long weekend.
cheers
Dave.

It's organized by 4WD Qld through their member clubs, so technically you need to be a club member although I know that some clubs relax their rules on this weekend in order to attract more helpers and to show what us clubbies get up to.
It's a great cause and a great weekend!!

Cheers

Cheers, I'm looking at joining a club at the moment, sent off emails to them and waiting for a reply, so maybe next year I will see you there.

IMOP that's the true Aussie spirit, well done fellow offroaders.

Strictly speaking a club could take you along as a visitor.

Our club chooses not to for the Clean up (but then with 22 families in attendance, space on barges and campsites becomes an issue)
