Hi all, the Nunes up near Lthgow is being shut down on the 2/2/07. Was a big sign up there today. Was up there today didnt do much 4wdriving just wanted to go for a run took the other half with me for a picnic lunch. I dont know where half of the groups of people with trail bikes etc are going to go. They are out of harms way there and not disturbing anybody but is also going to stuff the trips up to the gardens of stone etc. Not only that we will see how long it takes for the vegetation to grow over and wait for the next bushfires. Bet the greenies wont be out there on the end of a hose trying to stop it. Steve M

Hi Steve,
Are you talking about the main road from Bungleboori picnic ground to the glowworm tunnel or all of the area including lost city, spanish steps and Black fellas hand cave track.
Regards

I was there this weekend as well and saw the same sign. The wording on the sign is:

"This access will be permanently closed as of 2/2/2007. Lithgow city council does not recognise this as a public access and has no obligation to change or formalise its status. Therfore due to public liability and maintenance no further access will be allowed after 2 feb 2007".

This is the road that goes from the Zig Zag railway station, round the back of the sawmill and then eventually joins up to the main track to the Glow Worm Tunnel road to the Lost City, Newnes and Bungleboori camping ground.

You can still get to all these places but you need to go into Lithgow now and use the main road rather than this shortcut if you are coming from the east.

What a load of bullsh@t, this road comes up on my navman so how can they say that. They just dont want to have to keep the upgrade to it. If any track is open and is a public road then they are required by law to keep this track in useable condition to the public as a duty. They just couldnt be bothered to maintain it so its easier to shut it. Either way people will just make there own track in there wont be hard. Steve M

"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYY"

It really is starting to get beyond a joke. I was up in Barrington over the weekend. I wanted to go to a few places which now have locked gates. there is also a sticker on the information boards saying NPWS are currently updating access and closures so the maps on the boards may be incorrect..... :(
They have even closed of a big section to hikers. It is starting to become ridiculous.
I used to hike alot in these areas 20years ago and was a little dissapointed seeing 4wds in these areas. Now I can not even walk there.
Having said this some tracks had signs saying 4wd only and i saw a laser and a falcon on the track. I did not need to put it into 4wd

The area closed to hikers is because of a soil born fungus that is killing trees and had devastated a large area in south WA. Spores are spread by dirt on wheels and boots so that's why that bit is closed.

I was a bit annoyed to find the big gate on the track through the creek out the back of devils hole camp ground though.

The NSWNP&WS closed a track to a the Elizabeth lookout at Glenbrook in the Blue Mountains after the Xmas 2001 bushfires. Their reason " trees maybe fire affected could fall onto the public". Fair enough for a twelve month period I say, however the track is still closed five years later and they have even gone to the extent in strengthing the gate and adding dragline cabling as fencing. I would say the bushfire was the exuse they were waiting for, to deny vehicle access to the general public.

Yes the good old bush police at their finest as usual....morons!
