Hi peoples, Help peoples
My 62 series GXL cruiser has developed a little prob in the electrical department. This model has a switch to change from H2-H4 not via the transfer lever. Problem is when you release the switch the vehicle still remains in H4!! It is not mechanical as I have had the switching valve dismantled and tested by pushing air manually through it. It is not the switch itself as I have removed it and tested its operation and it is connecting/disconnecting perfectly. It is a relay that must be latching in even after power is removed. the only way to get it to disengage back to H2 is to drive over a lot of corrugations or constantly push the transfer switch on/off/on/off.... about 100 times and hope it drops out.
The question is WHERE IS THIS RELAY LOCATED??? I think I can hear it under the dash but I cant quite seem to find the right one and the gregorys manual is useless when it comes to actually telling you where stuff is.
Anyone out there have any experience with this stuff.
Thanks in advance, Andrew

Hi Stryda,
Good question ! I have a 62 sitting in the shed, so I just went up and did the
test.
When you push the hi-range button in and out to activate hi-range you can hear it clicking under the bonnet, so with a little help from my 12yr old son who was on button duty, I found the relay it is just above the clutch master cylinder and slightly to the centre of the car on the fire wall. When the button is pushed you can physically feel it clicking in and out - I hope this helps you with your problem, we 62 series owners have to stick together in this day of high technology and computers.
Cheers Johnno

Hi Johnno
Mate that was fantastic. I always thought those blue and brown thingos were something to do with the windscreen wipers or clutch.....what a dummy.
Found the prob straight away its the brown vac relay in
mine, the one that tells the car to drop out of H4, its blown. So I can manually transfer the hoses from one valve to another to get it to operate. I will steady myself and approach Toyota tomorrow and find out If still avaialbel and how much to replace it. Thanks again Johnno that has been faulty since last fathers day and no body could help me find it. thanks also to your 12 year olds button finger.
Cheers Andrew

I would also recommend getting hold of a copy of the toyota chassis and body manual, can be downloaded for free. I think this link still works " target="EOF" class="lbg">www.birfield.com/downloads-cat-1.html Has very detail descriptions of everything and I find it more useful that the gregorys manual.
Cheers
