Hi guys,

I have been using this forum for awhile now for research and general interest. I now have a query that someone may be able to help me with. I have recently bought a new Jayco Eagle camper trailer. I want to maintain the canvas and the colorbond sides but not sure what to use. I thought of using car wax or similar for the sides. Does anyone have any better suggestions? As for the canvas, I want to clean it as well as maintain waterproofing. I also want to protect it from exposure to the sun. I have no idea where to start for the canvas.

I hope some of the more knowledgeable people on this site have suggestions?

Thanks

mrberry

G'day,
first of all DON'T try to just clean your canvas otherwise you will take away it's waterproofing and then you will need to re-proof it. (might not be pure canvas)
Find out from Jayco where the canvas comes from and ring them about cleaning.
The sides: I have also just purchased a new camper for off-road use and the sides will get scratched, so I will use heavy duty, 12 or 15oz. canvas to protect.
I am going to fit aluminium rope runner to the front edge (vertical) and fasten top and bottom with press studs all the way to the rear. A heavy duty sewing machine will be needed for the sewing for the rope edge and hemming and I will approach a canvas repairer for this.
Rope runner can be either tech-screwed or pop riveted on.
Press studs can be either screwed or pop riveted on.
I will then only need to unpop the press studs and fold back around front of camper out of way. ( carry spares in fixit kit)
Rope runner can be purchased from an Aluminium supplier.
hope this helps.
Have a great "Aussee" day

G'day mrberry, if you bought a new Jayco, you would have recieved a cleaning kit and instructions(should have included washing shampoo, vinyl protector and a polish/protector for the painted Aluminium). This is a very good kit and will keep your camper clean and protected. As far as the canvas is concerned follow the instructions from Jayco, I also, after a trip, open the van and brush down the canvas then either hose it down or wait for rain( which it is doing as I type)

Good Luck

Thanks Andy Q,

The only cleaning product that they supplied was to clean the stove. They didnt give me any other products, although they did give me 3 Jayco hats and a jayco picnic rug. Bonus.....

Yeah! mrberry, I bought my camper from a dealer here in Vic and supplied all the cleaning products. It was all vantec stuff and I think the were the distributor for them as well, aside from that you should have been supplied with some sort of cleaning kit go back and ask them for something I mean, I don't know what you paid, but with the extras I got (and paid for) I expected something like cleaning products?
You can only ask!

I carry a fly, white on top green under and it provides for a veranda as well. It keeps the sun off and saves having a wet canvas packed away. If I want the sides up around the kitchen I have to put the awning up too but its no big deal.
