Gday All
I have a Toyota Hilux Extra Cab tray back, currently putting a canvas canopy on it. I was wondering if any one out there had put on top of a canvas canopy a roof rack? if so how did they mount it? obvisouly the biggest problem would be say 4 mount holes in the canvas on top getting it to seal, as the roof rack would have to be supported by the internal frame of the canopy. how would i attach the roof rack to the top of the canopy?
Any help greatly appreciated

Hi Troo Bloo
We had one on the Landcruiser. 4 bolts from the frame protruded through the canvas, and with the small holes and eyelet rings, not
water ever got in. The roof rack went over the bolts with of course 4 matching holes, and was secured with nuts - quick and easy. We had the canvas custom made to suit our frame.

Heeyyy Troo Bloo, we run a similar unit, and I would love to mount a rack at about cab height. So far, we're really happy with our 'prototype'. 80000 Km, approx.
. Why do you feel the need to put a canopy on?

water containers etc. I have large fuel tank under tray no room for tryes.

Troo Bloo, about all we have below the tray are shovel, bizzo saw( sorry, Seniors moment), and 60l of
water. SO much space// SO little usable space.
On the tray (for a long trip), we have 4by 20l diesel in a front corner, 4 by 20l
water against the front,2 wheels/tyres bolted up near the fuel, big haul winch next to the
water, assorted 'food grade' tubs (20l and 40l --mix n match to suit your tray), 2 of those big, black useless boxes from S.Cheap(they are basically "THE BLACK HOLE". one is 'bedding', the other is 'clothing' and they double as steps up into the canvas beds. They're the second last items to go in:the big flash (cheapish) table squeezes in on top of that.
Mate, unless you're fairly tall, I'd be surprised if you would need much else. Probably our 2 biggest expenses were the Waeco fridge (set behind my
seat), and 2 Thermorest mats on the canvas bed-bases.
ps the bizzo saw is actually a bow saw (I think)
and, ar ohsheesh, dunno. If you care, drop in an email.

used to run one on an old truck i had just had 4 holes wad punched thru the canvas & used 4 old landcrusier rubber spring bushes with bolt straight thru the rack - bush-canvas-frame it never leaked & did two trips to the cape & i full length
canning stock route trip and it let it to move and flex a bit
if you are making the cover get a extra bit sewn in the area you will bolt it,
this will stop it tearing & a flap sewn on the inside that can be pulled back over the hole when no rack is fitted you just put a small bit of closed cell foam in there between the frame and canvas & no more leaks
