Have any members had experience with the new SSangyong Musso sports Ute - 2.9 Litre D with auto transmission. I am considering the purchase of one of these units (on price) and will be towing a 1.6 tonne boat. It appears to be a bit light on on H.P. (kw) whatever. I currently drive a Nissan Patrol 3.0 D and have no problem. My second choice it the new Hilux D but they cost and arm and a leg. Any opinion much appreciated.

Is this a TROLL???
I'll bite.. and I hate to admit it, but I refer you to an article in 4WD monthly about 5 months ago I think.. they did a test on the Ssangyong Musso, and although many joke about their trials, and you take them to mean what you will, I can tell you one thing and that is that even 4WD monthly couldn't find anything good to say about them.
I can't beleive you are contemplating selling a Gu to buy a Ssangyong Musso.. having said that, each to their own I guess and I guess there must be something in them as there is the odd one or 2 of them on the road..

thanks Coyote,
I am seriously considering selling the Patrol as I can now lease a vehicle and if it is a commercial vehicle ie, 4 door ute there are FBT exemptions with this. The Musso is cheap! The Toyota is Great - the Nissan Nivara too small in the rear seat.

V6 Ford Courier> I know it’s not a diesel, but a good friends uncle recently traded in his 02 GU 4.2TD Tray top Patrol for one of these and has not looked back from what I have heard, and he is a farmer so the thing tows and carries chit around all day.

One of the blokes at work has Ssangyong ute. It's awful. Particularly for towing - with a trailer weighing less than a tonne (or thereabouts), he couldn't get it over 80km/h on a flat road.

Not a good vehicle. It'd get traded if, after less than twelve months, it had a vaguely reasonable resale value. Oddly even the dealer doesn't want it back . . .

You would regret your purchase buying a Sangyong in my opinion for a whole lot of reasons.! They are cheaper for very good reasons and reasons that would come back to haunt you.! Resale value is appauling. Either stick with the Nissan or buy the Hilux, the new Hilux is an awesome vehicle and worth every cent.!

I will second that. With the hilux you will soon forget the extra cost, the sangyong you will never forget the price.

Hi Mike, I purchased a new ssangyong Musso sportz, last year. I currently live in the NT, on a reasonabley good dirt road. So far the Musso has been in the ssangyong dealers workshop in Alice Springs (on average every three weeks) having faults fixed. Here is a list of faults so far found with my musso for you to consider. The day I drove it out of the dealer, the rear demister did not work, nor did the windows on the drivers side back door. About three weeks after that the front suspension had basically collapsed,(not under warranty). About a month later the outside tubes of the rear shocks broke and rattled around. two weeks or so later a noise appeared coming from the rear brake calipers, SSangyong Alice Springs are still trying to find this noise, they don't believe it exists. Last week the rear wheel fell off, and the wheel studs were destroyed, there are no wheel studs in Australia, nor many parts. The wheel fell of because I had a flat and had to put the spare on. The wheel nuts for the factory mags do not mate up properly to the standard wheel rim. What happens is because the nut has a metal cap on the end the stud mates up to this as you tighten rather than mating to the rim, thus allowing the rim to come loose. Not fixable under warranty. Also where the bonnet catch is anchored to the bonnet this stress fractured and all Ssangyong did to fix the problem was spot weld the fracture. I can't weld but I sure could do a better job than they did. The bonnet fractured because the bonnet bump stops were not adjusted correctly.Basically I bought the Musso to do away with my old 1983 Nissan MQ, I was wishing for more reliability with the Musso and thought being Mercedes licensed it would be reliable. Not so in my opinion they are very unreliable and mine is in the workshop on average every three weeks. I should have kept the money and done the old MQ up, or spent $15,000 more and bought a patrol or landcruiser. Just something for you to consider

Whats this about "Mercedes licensed"?
I thought their only relationship was that they used a Merc engine in their 1st model.

I seem to remember the owners of the 1st model sold in oz were left in the lurch with regards to parts and were forced to order them from Korea at their own expense?
