I'd like to build a folding boat rack for my Cavilear CT. Has anyone got photos/ideas as I want to sus out the measurements for the gas struts and the locking mechanism, ect. My boat is a 12 foot punt and does anyone now where I can get the struts to suit at a reasonable cost, the cheapest so far is $130 each.

My advice for the rack is to visit some maufacturers that build the racks and have look at how they do it. They may even be able to sell you some struts.
You could make a frame out of square tube steel with legs and attach the struts to that.
then weld support brackets onto a suitable part of the trailer, either side of wheel arches maybe? brackets would be a slightly larger diameter square tube steel. you could cut off one side of the bracket so the legs can go in and out. a hole through the whole thing held together with a bolt should hold it and also serve as a hinge on one side.
