I am waiting on delivery of my brand new 3L TDi Patrol, so this is the first of probably many questions, but I am just wondering what type of headlight globe they use? IE, is it a standard H4 globe or one of the other sizes? Also, how easy are the globes to get at to change?

G'day

Standard H4. Changing is not easy, particularly on the left (aircleaner housing).

Hi Hacksaw

Patrol GU OSRAM BILUX 64193 L . The L means standard.

I choose to replace them with 1 from same manufacture an OSRAM BILUX
64193 SVS. SVS = there best, known as "Silverstars" which are one of those +50 brightness types.

Thanks everyone for the answers.

Yes, it was a strange question, but I've done my research fairly well, so there isn't a great deal I need to know just yet.

BUT, when I pick it up, then the fun will begin.

Check out the other thread going at the moment about HID inserts.....the only way to go IMHO.

I agree with the comment that left side globe is bloody hard to get to. I'd be interested to see whether it's any easier on a new vehicle which doesn't have a wealth of extra gear added under the bonnet. The air cleaner box needs to be removed (on my 4.2TD, 2000 model) to have any chance of getting to the back of the globe. This is relatively simple (3 nuts on the under-side of the mudguard), but then the battery tray for the aux battery gets in the way as well.

I have the H4's in my new Lux and changed them to the new Phillips Brilliance , or my Autlec did them, fantastic, really bright and at least half way to HID's. I have HIF spotties, awesome. For around $600 you can get HID mains and high beams done.

The Patrol lights are plastic.

The plus 50's as already suggested are the same wattage so no increase in globe temperature.

Higher wattage globes ie. 130/90 are not recommended because they may damage the headlight reflector.

Agree there 1748

Personnally I don't think HID's are quite there yet particularly where
a low/high beam replacement is required, but they are the way of the future.

I think best standard globe thing you can do for Patrol's is put in a set of Fatboy's
at $140 ARB. (Refer 4wdingSa article).

At 75w they are still just ok power wise

Got to agree with robin I also have a set of fat boys and the light from them are really good. The main reason I chose them is that low beem is really good and when you dip your spots (LF-170's)you are not left in the dark for those few seconds while your eyes adjust.
