A lady friend of mine is thinking of buying a Pajero IO from a local dealer. I had a (very) brief look at it yesterday and was a bit worried by a section of the gearbox casting hanging down below the floorpan approximately under the drivers seat.

Now she's not going to do the Canning in this (or on a bike :) but she will be taking it onto some real 4WD tracks in the High Country - it looks to me that if she finds a medium to respectable size rock on a track (not hard to do in the HC) she's going to loose the gearbox?

Comments anyone?

Had a Pajero for 2 years and had no problem. Driven in areas with lots of metal scapings and oil on rocks but not hit myself. Went very careful until I got confidence in what it would clear. Conclusion, not much difference or better than others.

Hi Mike
We have an IO, my wife uses, I know what you mean. It does look a little prone.I assume it relies on the large bar in front of it for protection. We have never taken it off road so can't really help.

(ps It's for sale as we have just bought a 2nd hand 100 series LC for myself and my wife wants to keep the 80 series I had)

Regards
Neil (Pakenham, Melb area)

Same case as the normal Pajero, only in ally instead of steel.

Alloy + rocks - clearance, one guess....................
